The Westy — Restaurant in City of Ithaca

I hate giving negative reviews, but our recent experience at the Westy finally merits one. We went there on a quiet Thursday afternoon and were the only table actually at the outdoor sweating (plus maybe 5 people inside). We had the whole place to ourselves, and were enjoying a pan of pizza from the place next door plus some beers and popcorn from inside. One of our party members is a mom, so she brought her well behaved son. He was sitting at our table quietly enjoying his chicken nuggets while we talked. That was, until the bouncer decided to very rudely inform us that we weren’t welcome at the bar because someone brought their kid. Now, this would normally be understandable if there’s an official rule. However, there’s a way to inform us that doesn’t involve being aggressive and insulting. We were also informed upon entry that we were allowed to be there with a child who’s supervised by their mom. And while we’d be happy to follow the rules, we’ll likely never return. Because a simple explanation of policy would have been OK, but stomping around the table while being insulting is not. I’d rather not experience a power trip from a bouncer who’s chasing away the only table of customers. We took our business to Liquid State instead, where we faced no issue. One of the best bars in Ithaca. Huge tap selection that is constantly rotating and they also have a great liquor selection. Only one of three bars in all of Ithaca with any good rum.

Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Bouncers at the door when it's busy to insure everyone is of age as well. Thankfully 21 also means no children here (even a nice sign)

No actual food, but they do have a free, self-serve popcorn machine when you need a snack to balance out. They also allow you to bring in food.

Great beer selection and generally friendly people. There is often a food truck operating on the grounds, or you are free to bring in food from other establishments in the area. They offer free popcorn and a water station. They generally request a $10 minimum for credit card charges, and there is also an ATM on site.

There is a good amount of seating available both indoors and out. However, for someone who is sensitive to cigarette smoke, you may have a hard time here. Folks routinely smoke right outside both doorways, and the smoke proliferates the indoor and outdoor areas of the...
