Ithaca Stove Works — Local services in City of Ithaca

We purchased a home with an existing wood-burning fireplace, but was told the chimney was in disrepair and the fireplace should not be used. We contacted Ithaca Stove Works to inspect the chimney and see if it could be fixed. The fireplace was inspected at the end of October and we were told they would have to come back with a longer ladder to inspect the rest of the chimney. Apparently they forgot about us so I called and made another appointment for them to come back the week of Thanksgiving. The inspection was done and they said they would get back to us with a report. A couple more weeks went past and I still didn’t hear anything so I called and spoke to Tim. He said he would have to speak to the man who inspected the chimney and he would get back to me on the following Monday. Monday came and went, no call. I waited another couple of weeks and I went down to the store in person and the young lady at the counter found the folder with my name on it opened it up and it was empty. She looked a little dumbfounded and said she would have Tim call me on Monday. You guessed it, Monday came and went, no call. I don’t understand why my money doesn’t seem to be good enough for these people to repair our existing fireplace or to purchase an insert. We understand how much these things cost and we were willing to spend upwards of $5000+/- to have some kind of working fireplace in the house. Sent a door off my pellet stove to be regasketed.. I’ve never seen such low grade work out of a business that has specialized in that line of work a long time. The door leaks air badly around the wrong type of gasket installed on the door… all they had to do is see what kind of gasket was on the door and should’ve known what they put on it was totally wrong. This pellet stove needs to seal up completely to run. It soots the glass completely black in 7-10 minutes after firing up and then it shuts down due to the massive air leaks around the door. They also installed all three pieces of glass upside down.. and the decorative trim falls off the door. I will never recommend ithaca stove works to anyone. Money spent lesson learned..! I’ll order the correct gasket from the manufacturer and replace there shoddy work myself… which I would have done myself but didn’t have the time. You can bet I’ll make time and fix it right the first time…...

Needed new cap and cleaning. Matt came in and did an excellent cleaning. He found that the previous cleaners never cleaned one part of my interior pipe and it was caked up pretty bad. My outside pipe is three stories so it was a pretty big climb. Old cap was caked with soot from years of never being cleaned. New cap is awesome.
