James Beard award winning chef in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category, Angela Pinkerton, moves back to the East Coast to open the eponymously named Pinkerton's in a converted Gulf Oil station. Che figo, Italian for "That's so cool." I hesitated to write this review but after trying a few of her creations, I can emphatically state, she's the real deal! Although I took pictures of some baked goods and desserts, I've only tried two - a plain croissant and a slice of the passionfruit meringue pie. If someone can make pastry that is crunchy, chewy, yet light, airy and delicate at the same time, out of five ingredients, that's accomplishing something. That croissant was something. I know it's such a cliche but the passion fruit meringue pie was the best I've ever had. Seriously. Each layer (graham cracker crust, custard, passion fruit curd, bayleaf meringue) is very good on its own but the combination of crunch, sweet, tart, and slightly exotic/unfamiliar (passion fruit and bay leaf) tastes and textures altogether...redefined what a pie can be for me. I'll admit I'm having a moment here, fanboying on pastry and desserts, of all things. I haven't even tried the chocolate croissant, apple, quince & cheese danish, or the mud pie yet because it would be too much of a good thing. I recommend you try it...

We were visiting Kingston for the weekend and looking for a pie to bring to a friend's gathering. We debated between the Stonefruit Soirée and the Key Lime Pie - we couldn't decide so naturally ordered both. Both were incredible and the fruity flavors did not disappoint.
While we were ordering the pies, we decided to sample the Bacon, Egg and Cheese breakfast sandwich and the Chocolate Croissant. These were also absolute hits and not to be missed. (And we don't have photos of these because we devoured them so quickly!)
Angela, her husband, and everyone who worked at the Bakery were very friendly and helpful. We love the retro vibes from converted oil station and the sitting area was bright & clean.
We are already figuring out when we can return to Kingston for another visit. We're bracing ourselves for the toughest decision of all: another round of Stonefruit Soirée, or try the Passionfruit Meringue? Maybe the move is to skip the debate entirely and order one...
Read moreI finally made my way to this wonderful bakery. I ordered the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich and it was SO GOOD! No photo as I ate it so quickly! Every aspect of this simple sandwich was of high quality and so delicious. The BEC is on their homemade English muffin with a fluffy scrambled egg and an herb-y cheese. I also ordered an iced London Fog which was exactly what I needed for this hot and humid day. Later, I’ll enjoy one of their almond croissants and a slice of their blueberry crumb pie. The cookies looked delicious and looked forward to sharing them with my neighbor’s kids. Look forward to...
