Handsome Devil BBQ — Restaurant in City of Newburgh

I consider myself a discerning customer and diner, coming from hospitality myself, so take me seriously when I say this place is fabulous. They helped me to host an event that was kind of a hybrid of restaurant and catering, within the restaurant itself, so my 5 star review is from several perspectives First things first: Food: fabulous. Abundant. The wings (bbq and buffalo) were amazing. Good size, stellar flavor. Thai chili cauliflower. So. Good. Guys, do yourself a favor and get your hands on the brisket burger... it's absolutely outrageous, and for our group one burger fed 2 people. Ribs, moist, smokey, great size wonderful flavor. Keep me away from the mac and cheese, I ate mounds of it. Even the collards. We came back the following weekend for more of everything and learned that you shouldn't sleep on the sausage. Only down side... I wanted at least one healthy ish option... nary a salad in sight. So just accept it. When in Rome... there is no salad. Staff/customer service: this place. How did they get this staff? They must take stellar care of them because every single last one was responsible, responsive, attentive, kind... they served our needs while carefully keeping in mind the needs of the establishment. They pulled together a 30 person event for me with a 1 week turn around, and worked with all of my quirky requests. Ronny, Irina, Desire, their whole team was killer. Lucky owner. Value: ridiculous. Stellar price point, huge portions. Raise your prices on catering guys. But don't for me, just for everyone else. Ambiance: outside is fabulous and contemporary. Inside is clean lines and fun vibe. I and my family dined at this restaurant on 09/23/2021. When we first arrived the bartender spoke quick and low about how diners are served and then quickly dismissed himself. My wife said she heard what he said but I did not. Then we went to order our food and the people doing the serving were not friendly and would not make eye contact at all. We ordered our food and were not served our meal all at once. Food came out and the brisket was somewhat soggy, the same seasoning that was on the wings was on the crispy cauliflower (???) As well as the pulled pork. I could understand if it were one or two things but all of the food was luke warm. By the way, there is no metal cutlery so if you need to cut let's say roasted chicken you'll just have to use your fingers. Last, but not the least of this experience was the fact that 2 adults and a 6 year old and a 9 year old had meals that totalled $120 dollars. I don't care about the cost but I do care about the value and from the staff to the quantity and quality of the food served in our visit it's just not a justifiable price. There are other retaurants in the area that will serve better quality barbecue with good customer service at an overall lower price. Mabe we went on an off night for the restaurant but I can't justify that price tag for quality and quantity of food, even given the doubt that's still 1 out of 3 negatives. Yesterday, I thought to make a pit stop at the above eatery ie; Handsome Devil BBQ in Newburgh, NY. I didn't know what to expect with great anticipation to satisfy my time and money. The Brisket: 1/2 pound: The quality was fresh, tender and flavorful. As a take-out order. Try placing the sauce on the meat, the flavor will satisfy yr tastebuds, leaving you thinking about yr next order. The mac n cheese. The balance taste is not overcompensated due to the other flavors in the other foods yr looking to enjoy. The collards-greens are on point. Only thing, can the kitchen staff dice the collards smaller, this is a better approach ie; especially collards..To top is off: I'm a fan and rave about their Banana Pudding ie; the cookies, balanced consistency and freshness is well prepared. Oh, I'm not a taco fan but; stop there for a Brisket taco enclosed with a kick of seasonings, it was fullfilling too with the side sauce..The 1/2 dozen of BBQ wings, I requested a custom made order, it was perfect.
