Wimpy's Inn — Restaurant in City of Ogdensburg

Wimpy's was a complete enigma to us. We've been through Ogdensburg many times, and have never been, nor heard of this small, charming, historical joint. It was only by happenstance that we had a chat with someone at the garden center that we were told of the Wimpy's burger. And boy howdy, this Canuck is grateful to be given some local wisdom. The Wimpy burger, first made in 1931, is a small, fresh paddy with an almost sloppy joy style "sauce" on top. The winner to me, though, is the mac and cheese. It's...it rendered me speechless. It is probably the best mac and cheese I've had if not in a restaurant, than in general. It's at the very least, in my top three. It's made fresh, creamy, with just...the perfect blend of cheese. I'm flabbergasted at how much I love this. I may get another one to take him with me to Ottawa.

We found Wimpy's Inn on one of our cross-border shopping trips. It had good reviews and was close to the bridge, so we thought we'd try them out. Let me tell you, they exceeded our expectations! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the food was fantastic! I ordered the shrimp dinner and my wife had a cheeseburger. While we waited, we kept hearing people come in and order Wimpy burgers. I was intrigued, so I added one to my meal as well. It's a hamburger topped with a "Michigan"-style meat sauce. It was almost like a sloppy joe on steroids, but far less messy. Great little burger place, full of tasty food, bright colors, and a healthy dose of nostalgia. The food was right on time as requested. The order was accurate. The burgers are small but inexpensive, so grab a couple. They are generous with the fries. I'll be honest and say the wimpy sauce was not my favorite. The cabbage salad (coleslaw) was a good side, not heavy on mayo which is usually the downfall for coleslaws. The fish was tender. The Mac and cheese was fresh and tasty.
