Wow this place was a complete disappointment. My family was visiting from out of town and I wanted to take them to a delicious dinner after a hike near Bear Mountain. On Google, I searched for places using the key term « fine dining. » The pictures at Fin & Brew looked enticing and the location on the water beautiful. The reviews sounded great. Unfortunately, the food and the service at Fin & Brew were both very subpar and did not match the price at all.
First, we arrived right when they opened, at 5 PM, before our dinner reservation. We asked if we could sit outside and take in the view with a drink before our reservation. They said no, that we were only allowed to stay inside unless we were ready to order dinner. Mind you, the place was fully empty. Like literally empty. We would have been happy to move to the bar indoors once people arrived.
We left and got a drink somewhere else, and came back for our dinner reservation. The food took a very long time to come, and they brought the entrées first, before the appetizers 🤦🏻♀️ By the time we finished our entrees, the appetizers arrived, and they brought the wrong one’s. They came back with the correct dishes. The gaspacho was not a gaspacho at all, it was a chopped tomato-cucumber salad sitting in water (they even called it « tomato salad » when they brought it out). They charred octopus was not a delicate piece of grilled octopus, but essentially a plate of nachos - chopped up pieces of grilled octopus smothered in a cheese-like sauce and covered in chips. The stuffed mushrooms with crab lacked taste. Overall, the food was greasy and lacked finesse. I would never call this place « fine dining ». I honestly felt embarrassed that I took my family there and that we spent over $200 to have such a lackluster meal.
Would not recommend, and will not be...
Read moreWe were on a family outing for the day and I chose Fin & Brew to end our family's birthday outing as it was in-between Storm King and our home in NYC. Generally speaking, we were not disappointed. Nearly everything we ate was great. The Corn Brule' was delicious, as were the Crunch Potato Salad and Tempura Green Beans (please consider increasing the amount of Wasabi Aioli being served...there just isn't enough for the portion of beans being served). Unfortunately the Beet Salad didn't quite work for us because the pistachio aioli was rather bland (have you tried toasting the nuts first?) and there weren't nearly enough pickled onions to make an impact. All but one of our entree's were delicious. Charred Corn Agnolotti (an App eaten as an entree), Brick Chicken and Dayboat Scallops were delicious as was my PERFECTLY cooked Duo of Long Island Duck...I cannot tell you how often I've been disappointed when ordering duck so thank you so much...although I have to say there was way too much yogurt on the plate for my liking. Unfortunately The "Vegetarian" was a disaster. Poorly executed with absolutely ZERO seasoning...my son barely touched it...Please, if you're going to put a vegetarian plate on the menu, it needs to stand up to every other dish on what is otherwise and excellent menu. It was a really good meal overall and a good choice to top off a very good day of family time. The only real criticism I'll offer is that when I made the reservation, I was clear in mentioning that we were celebrating not 1, not 2 but 3 birthdays. At no time was it ever brought up during our visit and I found that odd considering the fact that this is an upscale restaurant with a fairly expensive menu. That's a detail that a restaurant at this level shouldn't miss. Still, generally speaking the food is great and I'd...
Read moreI was excited to try Fin & Brew as I had been following their Instagram page for quite a while and was impressed by their photos. We finally made a reservation for a Friday night. We weren't sure if we would hit traffic, so we left early and ended up arriving almost half an hour early for our 8:15 reservation. We offered to wait at the bar but the hostess said she could seat us right away. There were several empty tables.
The ambience of the restaurant is very nice with a rustic meets industrial vibe right on the water with a beautiful view. The restaurant has a bit of an odd layout inside of a building with an arcade, but we found it easily enough. Parking was a challenge as the lot was completely packed.
We were immediately underwhelmed with the service. From the time we sat, everything took way longer than it should have - water, menus, cocktails. But that wasn't the worst of it. We ordered apps - mussels in beer broth and 6 oysters - and mains - fisherman's stew and Colorado lamb at the same time, approximately 8pm. By 9:30, when we had received only our apps, we decided to ask for help. A bus boy promised to check as our waiter was nowhere to be found. By this point our water and cocktails were finished, never to be replenished. The bus boy never returned. We asked the hostess to check and she told us that isn't her department. At that point we asked for a check. Miraculously, our food arrived! By that point we really had no interest in eating (or sitting) any longer. The waiter (generously?!) offered to remove the entrees from our bill (ha!).
So as much as I would have loved to love Fin & Brew and return to that gorgeous view over cocktails, it just isn't going to happen. The "service" is atrocious and the food (apps, at least) was not worth the hassle and...
