I have been traveling around the world staying in hotels on almost weekly basis. In 25+ years of traveling I have never stayed in a hotel where you had to inform the hotel front desk by 6pm the night before in case you were checking out early or you would be charged for the following day in full!!!
I had a reservation for three weeks.
During the first week it turned out that I had to leave for the weekend so I played by hotel's rules and "attempted" to let the lady at the front desk know about the change of plan and that I would be returning the following Monday. When asking her to change my reservation she gave me the speech that I may not get a room for the following week if she would cancel my reservation. I ended up addressing the situation next morning with the staff of the morning shift. Besides the fact that I was charged a higher rate for the following week, the checkout went well with the exception that I was not given a receipt for laundry charges since they were excluded from hotel bill #???#!
Oh, and by the way..., this hotel does not laundry socks, underwear, etc.!!! Yes, it's ridiculous. I guess if you work long hours every day and don't find time to "do your own laundry"; a multiple weeks stay leaves you with you no choice but to buy new socks, underwear, etc. Absolutely pathetic..., why even offer laundry service if you only allow certain items to be dropped off.
Anyway, entering week two of my stay. After the disaster of the first week's checkout I decided to book the room for a one week at a time only. That being said, I was able to finish the job a day ahead of schedule and went to checkout Thursday mornings #instead of Friday#. After the "speech" from the previous week I elected to avoid such situation the night before since I didn't expect this week to be any different. So Thursday morning the next staff member tried to take me down the road of "you should have told us last night..." but he agreed to not charge me for the Friday after I explained to him why I did not stop at front desk the night before.
Well, to make a long story short, I just checked my credit card statement and I was charged for the night I didn't stay. Ended up calling the hotel this morning and the lady I spoke to was very understanding of my frustration and refunded me the false charges.
Anyway, I have very little interest in dealing with hotels that have those weird type of rules that. I rather accept the 25 minutes extra driving time to make it all the way to Fishkill and find a hotel out there when I am the next time in the area. And the fact that I was told this morning by the hotel staff that THEY GET A LOT OF COMPLAINS from the guests about this checkout rule I wonder what Mr. Saunders #general manager# motivation is that this rule has not been dropped yet.
It's a nice hotel, don't get me wrong, but I, for sure, will not be...
Read moreI called and paid for a room. When I arrived the receptionist checked me in and she was very provocative and then took $294.76¢ from my credit card and when I asked her why the amount was more than the amount on the bill she responded with a mocking tone that there is something called a tax so I told her that the price is written and the tax is also written and the amount she took was exactly $49.99¢ more so she said that is for the guarantee and we will return it as soon as you leave then She asked for my driver's license and after that she said your reservation is correct but there are no rooms available so I told her I want any room no need for it to be two beds I am alone she said there is no room so I asked her then why did you take the money from the card. You have to return it, she said I can't then she talked about increasing the price to give me what she called a sweet and when I refused to pay more she said I can't do anything for you you just have to be awake at 7 am for someone to call you to return your money I told her I am tired and it is now almost 3 am and I might be asleep at that time she replied rudely do you want your money I told her yes she said then you have to answer the call I asked her for a bill or an email or any proof that I did not get the room so they don't say later that I did not show up or that it was my fault, She refused to cooperate in any way and after our voices started to rise I decided to go out and call management and report the problem and the rude racist treatment. Although the problem has not been resolved yet but I thank the people who answered the phone at IHG Army Hotels Five Star Inn for their high-class treatment and effort in trying to solve the problem it is true that they are the ones who told me to go to this hotel but who knew what would happen. And at 8 am I went there because no one called me and I met a respectable man who works there and he said that the money might take a few days due to bank transactions but he returned it, it is true that the money has not been returned yet but the difference in treatment between the night worker and the morning employee is incomparable, so much so that as soon as I left I almost cancelled writing the review but I decided to write what happened to avoid the same with others and so that the hotel management knows if this is happening without their knowledge. They should modify the website so that it does not allow booking more than the number of rooms or teach the employees to check before taking...
Read moreWe had a negative experience being checked in. She almost seemed to not believe we had a reservation made by CLC. was not friendly or helpful in finding a way to get clarify our situation. I had to call and have CLC call her and she ten realized everything was correct but the " print was too small" for her to read so they needed to resend an email. Then I went to use the indoor pool , that is 3.5 feet deep all around, and I was told I needed to wait for a shaperone from the hotel to babysit me while I stand in the pool. I am 49 yrs old and not handicapped. I don't like or want someone watching me swim/enjoy myself in the olpopl room. It was insulting. If you need eyes on the pool ,put a camera in there. I normally love our holiday inn express hotels, we stay in a different one .mostly every week. This experience had 2 negative events in the first day.
I came to understand that the pool rule is a Westchester county law that must be enforced, that was not the fault of the hotel. And about the reception issue, people that work in these hotels are there everyday and have an idea of what is going on. Us as customers as workers moving from state to state from hotel to hotel are coming in from either a long days drive or work and sometimes both. Walking into a a new hotel every week we don't want anything more than to sit down and relax for the firstime that day sometimes after 8hrs of driving and 5 hours of work. I understand that there may be fraud, but going into the situation when it it clear you have a personal issue of some sort right at the front desk is not acceptable and in no way presenting the idea we are welcome and that you appreciate us . We all have bad days bad moments and I don't want one incident to make a very nice stay we had turn into a bad post. But you know your coworker told you where the reservations were and you still hounded us for a reservation #, then it was exactly where he said, and the information like you said should have been verified when the reservation was taken( IE. CREDIT CARD NUMBER) BUT YOU MADE US FEEL LIKE WE WERE TRYING TO CON YOU, OR SOMEHOW GET INTO A ROOM AND NOT PAY. Your demeanor was untrusting, unfriendly, and unwelcoming. But maybe I was on edge as well , like I said I just wanted to sit down and eat, and that was not happening due to our issues. Thank you. This hotel is a very nice stay, sometimes little situations get blow out of proportion, I would stay here again any...
