We ate at Schatzi’s pub & biergarden in New Paltz this weekend. We waited over an hour for a table. At first they said 30-40 minutes so we walked around town a bit. When we went back we sat outside a while longer waiting for them to call us and then I went back in to check. The hostess tried to talk us into going elsewhere but everywhere else had 30+ minute waits and we had already invested over an hour. The restaurant doesn’t seem to rush ppl out - some ppl were there for hours - before us and after us - just enjoying drinks. That doesn’t really work for seating ppl and having shorter wait times but I can also see where it would be viewed as a plus. We also waited a long time for our food which was pretty simple. Burger - chicken fingers - and a salad. They got my daughters burger order wrong - send out the wrong burger - so we had to wait even longer for it to be re-prepared. That being said the food was delicious. They had a message on their website that they are running slower due to being short of staff so it seems they are aware of the issue. I also think the volume of patrons was much higher than usual due to it being parents weekend at the college and also fall when lots of ppl go up for the foliage and hiking.
Ultimately I would try Schatzi’s again - my daughter says she wouldn’t want to go back bc she was annoyed at the burger mess up and the long wait times. Maybe on a less busy weekend we will get change to just enjoy the food without the...
Read moreTL;DR: Good food fast. Craft beers. Good service. Seasonal outdoor seating.
My companions and I had just walked the local trail between the two bridges and were looking for a place with bar foods and a decent drink selection. This place is easy to miss, as it’s in the middle of a row of small businesses.
The storefront is dark and at first glance I though they were closed. Upon entering there’s the standard bar area and behind that there’s a surprising amount of seating. There’s a single restroom, so if it’s game day and you’ve got a tiny bladder, good luck to you.
I ordered the sweet chili chicken wings which came with celery, carrots, and ranch sauce. My companions ordered sandwiches, both of which received positive reviews. The one downside was the cheese curds. They were bland and could’ve used a saltier, richer flavor. The curds became inedible once they reached room temperature. Hopefully a few minutes in the home air fryer will resurrect them.
Service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Prices...
Read moreShcatzi's? More like Shitzi's Today I decided to come here and dine outside. I had my dog with me. Everything was fine until I noticed HEAVY activity from aggressive bees. My dog and I are both terrible allergic to the bees and could have potentially had an awful situation occur. When I brought this to staffs attention they looked at me with complete disdain and disgust as if I have insulted Their family personally. I waited 45 minutes for drinks that were rudely and sloppily dropped at my table. The food took another 40 minutes and was cold, undercooked, and the most rubbery chicken I have ever seen in my life. Talk about one of the most terrible diming experiences ever. You can better believe that me and mine will never give them another dollar or opportunity to be so horrible to us. One star from sitting down to the terrible and bra-less staff (I could see everything) to the killer bees and boozeless drinks. Cheers and happy dining friends. Avoid Schitzi's as if it were a plagued and...
