The place is quaint, a throwback. The prices are good compared to the rest of Collegetown.
Unfortunately, that's where it ends.
I ordered an egg over hard with toast on rye and hash. I got a scramble with toast on rye. I told her this wasn't what I ordered, but she asked if I could still have it - and I ended up with a nauseating, cold scramble to be polite.
I also asked about the missing hash - she said oh, I didn't charge you for them, and never gave the option to have them. With the meal I ordered, they were only $0.35 extra, and I'd been wanting the hash.
Yet my check seemed ~15% higher than it should be so I checked the menu and asked - they said the type of bread they used was extra. When I'd been given bread options, I wasn't told that any types of bread have a surcharge and wouldn't have bothered if I'd been told.
So it was a disappointing customer service experience. Mistakes are understandable, but none of them were even attempted to be corrected, and I do expect that at the minimum.
If you want cheap food and are fine with poor service and variation in what you ordered, this is a great place. If not, you may want to take your money elsewhere.
This was originally posted back in May 2018 but I am updating it in August 2018 to remove a star since I don't feel this service deserved the two stars...
Read moreThe server was amazing she was very attentive and very apologetic I had ordered the steak and eggs I'm still not sure exactly what cut of meat it was because there was so much fat all through my steak and Sirloin is not supposed to be a fatty steak at all I had ordered it medium and it came out well done to there credit they actual replated it and made fresh eggs the home fries were extremely Bland and I could tell that they were barely even cooked from him trying to rush my plate of food out so basically I got the most fattest sirloin steak I've ever seen some half cooked home fries that I was charged for peppers and onions and the cook didn't even bother to put them back on when they replated my food the only thing that was halfway decent was the orange juice and the eggs even the toast wasn't as advertised because the sole reason I picked this Diner was because they had pictures of homemade bread for toast so from top down it was definitely mediocre at best but my favorite part was having to pay $20 for the worst steak and eggs I have ever tried to eat I finally got so disgusted with the food I finally couldn't eat anymore and I just left 80 percent of my food was left on the table. For the life of me I cannot figure out why they sell steak and eggs and literally buy the cheapest steak they can...
Read moreNot exactly the cleanest place I've ever been to, but definitely not dirty. The menu was full of Great American comfort food. Prices were acceptable, even good considering the state of our economy. The blueberry pancakes I ordered had real fresh blueberries, not dehydrated tiny bits and pieces of berry. They were sweet and firm too. I got the two pancakes, two eggs, two sausage links, and a drink. It was under $10 which is really saying something today. Everything was big enough to enjoy, but not so big that I felt over stuffed when I finished my plate. Service was great as usual! Never had a bad experience at this diner. It was not crowded, but also not empty. I believe this shows good service getting people in and out the door, and good food which draws people in. Parking is always a chore, as space is limited and quarters are tight. Look for a spot in the back, that's your best shot. Newspaper rack was empty as usual. I don't know if they don't get it delivered anymore or it's empty by 10:00 a.m. that's okay though, the weight for the food was minimal, so there wasn't any need to read the newspaper. LOL everything you needs on your phone anyway! The rest of our party was equally satisfied. The lunch menu is as good as the breakfast menu. All in all another fantastic visit to a great piece of...
