6.4.24 - still a lovely place to be and have the opportunity to sit by the Sea…we stopped for a drink and an appetizer this afternoon while walking the boardwalk…Buy…isn’t there always one?….our server told us point blank…”we don’t have honey” when we asked for the whipped ricotta app and inquired whether they might have hot honey v regular honey (read owner response below)…when I replied that is was an ingredient in the app she seemed flustered and said well we don’t have hot honey…I asked if she would please check…maybe it’s me …but I think a server should have a firm grasp on the details of the menu…as she was delivering an order to one of only three tables occupied at the time..she passed by and stated rather curtly…there is no hot honey…I replied thank you and that regular would be fine…I sincerely hoped that as stated below…I would be pleasantly surprised to find that what was implied would actually materialize…🙁…once again food was good…but def disappointed given our intention is to provide the opportunity to be wowed on second chance…did not happen…
5.27.24 - We ate here last night...got a table on the boardwalk...travel with the puppy...very festive lively atmosphere...live music...our server Victor was great...we ordered the Ricotta/honey app (note: Mikes hot honey would be a great option) and the Wings with the Nashville hot sauce a steak sandwich, chicken salad tuna stack and 3 tiki burgers for dinner...ordered the burgers specifically for the fried pickle chips...and we were not told that pickle chips were not available...we do not hold the server responsible as he told us that he was not told by the kitchen/mgmt that pickles were not available at all....but we were very very very very dissapointed. After a brief discussion about Tiki bar being an upscale "priced" place and if its on the menu but not available customers should be informed immediately...and the customer service concept "give em the pickle"....no punn intended...Victor comped one of our apps. So we took it on the chin and ended the meal mostly happy! The food quality was good and some of our party was suprised...having had several bad experiences last season. The place was totally hoping and Victor was mad crazy busy but wanting us to be happy...so we hold mgmt responsible in this case. Based on this review...you can tell that we do give second chances...and given that all of us are Playland season pass holders...um...chances are pretty good we'll be back...hopefully hot honey will be...
Read moreOverall, an excellent option for waterside dining and drinks, located right next to Playland.
Location and atmosphere: 4.5 stars. It's an extraordinarily good restaurant given what you'd expect to find next to an amusement park, and the ambience is pretty nice, especially on the waterside sections that were closed when we went there.
The upper deck, where we ate, has plexiglass sheltering diners from the wind - an awesome feature during the cool months, but unfortunate during the heat of summer when seaside breezes were what we wanted to take advantage of. Still lovely. It's packed a little tight up there in terms of layout, but not overly so.
Food: Overall very good, also 4.5 stars. Calamari was phenomenal - crisp, tender, clearly made from scratch. House salad, not great - too much dressing and way too many fried onions on top, lost the freshness. Mussels were tasty, served in a beautiful spicy tomato broth, but there were some dubious ones left in the bowl that could have caused a rough night for someone who didn't know to look for unopened shells; should have been caught while plating.
Littleneck clams were in a gorgeous spicy tomato cream sauce, but the clams themselves were hard to find (vast majority ended up in the bottom of the bowl, again could have been better plated so the top wasn't a pile of empty shells). Seafood pasta was tasty, though if you're on a serious seafood kick like us, know that it used a very similar sauce to the clams, albeit lighter, lemonier, and less spicy.
Drinks-wise, they've got a solid selection of summery draft beer pours, but the liquor selection (esp. tequilas) is tilted towards high end, expensive pours so heads up on that end.
Service: great, 5 stars, with a kind and knowledgeable waiter along with attentive busboys, and the food came out reasonably quickly for a high customer/staff ratio on a weeknight.
TL;DR? It's an extraordinarily good restaurant given the location, and a great accompaniment to the newly renovated Playland. It's on the pricey side, so just know that this is a "special treat" kind of spot,...
Read moreUnfortunately it was actually terrible. The food was over 40 minutes late. The plates arrived very separately from one another. Portions small. Chicken on Cesar was cold, dry, thin and hard, mostly inedible. I asked two servers for olive oil to try to moisten the dry meat, but they disappeared. So my husband had to go to the kitchen doorway to ask for it. His fish tacos came out even later, and they too were cold. Each taco had just one small dried, hard strip of old looking fried fish on them. Not fresh or appetizing. The Fries came out even later, and they too were hard and cold to the touch. Nothing we ordered was made timely or fresh. We were very ignored and surprised at how badly it was run. Everything looked 'slapped together' at best. We tried to inquire and get helped, but the staff were noplace to be found. Twice my husband was forced to leave his seat to go look to outside to find someone to assist us. When someone finally arrived, she was edgy, impatient and borderline 'snotty'. The excuse was that they had a larger party outside. Nice ! Finally the Owner/Manager comes over to apologize (we think, considering everything). But not. Instead he was EXTREMELY loud, crude and beyond unprofessional. He was openly abusive. He spoke to us in a very insulting and condescending manner for all to hear. Instead of just politely apologizing for basically everything being wrong; he very loudly challenged us and talked over my husband and myself. He was obnoxious and openly rude. We were very, very uncomfortable, upset and it felt bullying. We wanted to leave. Then as he's dismissing us and walking away, he yells out 'its on me', 'Have a good trip back to Brooklyn " We're from Westchester. But irregardless, what is that supposed to be, a dig of sorts? So ABSOLUTELY never again ! Unfortunately all they have going for them...
