We discovered this place while searching for a somewhere to eat close to my hubby's eye doctor. He was having several surgeries and had to have multiple quick checkups after each procedure. So...I googled and found Newest which was just up the hill from the medical office so we decided to give it a try. We've been there three times now, and I'm looking forward to the next meal, er, eye checkup!
OMG this place is GREAT! Fast, friendly service and food made from scratch served fresh and HOT. You really can't ask for more than that. The atmosphere is great and there's always free street parking right out front. I'm hoping for a cold, rainy day next time so I can try the soup. It's just too hot try it now, although the gyros and souvlaki were just fine in 90+ degree heat! Read moreThe fresh farm eggs were incredible, the bacon, onions and pepper extra are just so good! The food is very fresh, authentic, and guaranteed to get to your table in a few minutes!!! This dinner has been there for over 100 years and is always full of locals, one of these precious American dinners! But, what made it a fantastic experience for my family and I was the amazing service. The owner is always on the floor working hard and making sure everyone enjoys their food; and the servers are soo efficient and friendly, they appear to know all their regulars by name! I have never seen a place so dedicated to their clients! The walls are covered with photos of their clients, amazing to see! The owner even took time to talk to us about the electric city: the history and places to visit! We will...

However, both the decaf coffee and the cheddar broccoli omelet had an actually bad (foul) taste that lingered for more than half an hour afterward, until having coffee elsewhere. This is as surprising as it is hard to explain, since I have very rarely had ill-tasting food in the US. In fact, my only comparable experience was at a(n equally old) Chicago diner named Daley's, at Cottage Grove and 63rd. Maybe old-fashioned diners use some specific, peculiarly-tasting ingredients? Unfortunately, whatever it is...
