I recently visited the Irish coffee shop in Yonkers with my children, hoping to enjoy a pleasant meal and experience the warmth and hospitality the Irish culture is known for. Unfortunately, what we encountered was nothing short of disappointing and discriminatory.
Upon entering the coffee shop, we were greeted by a very rude lady who seemed to have a chip on her shoulder. When I approached the counter to place my order, she looked at me and my children with disdain, as if we were not welcome there. Confused, I asked her why, and her response was utterly shocking. She blatantly told us that we were not welcome in her establishment and suggested we go elsewhere to eat.
The lady's discriminatory behavior took us aback and left us feeling extremely hurt and marginalized. As Irish Travelers, we had hoped to celebrate our heritage and enjoy a taste of Ireland in this coffee shop, but instead, we were met with exclusion and prejudice.
It is deeply disheartening to encounter such blatant discrimination in this day and age. No one should be treated with such disrespect based on their background or ethnicity. As customers, we should be valued and treated with kindness and fairness, regardless of our cultural identities.
I sincerely hope that the management of this coffee shop takes swift action to address this unacceptable behavior and implements measures to ensure that such discriminatory incidents never happen again. I urge potential customers to be aware of this unfortunate experience and consider other options that prioritize inclusivity and respect for all patrons.
It is my hope that this review serves as a wake-up call for the coffee shop management, reminding them of the importance of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all customers, regardless of...
Read moreThe Irish coffee shop is one of the best neighborhood eateries in the area. They have authentic Irish dishes and the most lovely staff serving it. Every year we do a company wide Irish breakfast for our staff on St. Patrick’s Day and we would never have anyone else cater it but them! They always make it exceptional, everyone looks forward to it.
This year in particular was difficult with COVID so I had to call for a special request, I asked them to make 53 individually packed Irish breakfasts as opposed to our normal “tray style” catering. On one of the busier days of the year this is certainly no small request. Not only did they make it happen but they made it happen well, making a very exciting socially distanced Irish breakfast possible for my team. Not only was the food outstanding as always and the service beyond anything you normally expect but the prices are incredibly reasonable and makes it feel like you get every cent worth of what you spend for the delicious food and friendly service you get!!
Now for the food itself, you cannot go wrong ordering anything on their menu. My favorite thing they make is the Irish brown bread. My husband is from Ireland; myself being a native New Yorker, the first time I was there was to visit his family and I fell in love with brown bread. When I order it here it takes me back to the beautiful green countryside of Ireland. Now that is just my particular specific joy but everything they make is delicious and I truly believe they have the best Irish sausage I’ve ever eaten.
In the neighborhood, stop in, not in the neighborhood, trust me it is...
Read moreI recently visited The Irish Coffee Shop with my two children, hoping to enjoy a nice dinner based on positive reviews I had heard. Unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant.
Upon arrival, we were promptly seated and placed our order within five minutes—chicken tenders and a pizza bagel for the kids. Following our arrival, three other tables were seated, including a table of two, a table of four, and another of three. What struck me was that all the patrons appeared to be of Irish descent, unlike my children and me.
To my dismay, each of these tables received their meals well before us, despite having ordered after we did. After waiting forty minutes, I inquired about our order, only to be told that our order was last in line. It felt as though priority was given to the Irish costumers, and even my 11-year-old son noticed the apparent discrimination.
When I spoke with a staff member to express my concerns and request that our food be packed up, explaining that I felt the service was discriminatory, the situation escalated. To my surprise, the staff member I was speaking with was actually the owner. He became defensive and stated that if I were to leave a negative review, he would respond to it, particularly because I mentioned the possibility of discrimination.
The poor service and the feeling of not being treated equally made this a very disappointing visit. I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience.
If you are Irish you’ll be treated great but anyone else, visit this place at your...
