Good afternoon . I would like to share my experience of racial micro -aggression this morning at starbucks. as I waited in line to give my order to the cashier, a middle age white woman stood before me. The cashier was so courteous and kind, smiling and asking how else she might the lady. As I approached to give my order, no smile, "how can I help you" and with her head cocked to the side, looking me dead in my eyes, as if to say lets go sir. as a black man in this country/ world, I have desensitized myself to these behaviors, and as such just wanted to get my order and move on. she asked my name, which surprised me, for she knows my wife and I after being great customer for more that two years. But I was alone so she did not recognize me. This cashier has been employed there for two years or more, Latina, heavy accent, about 5'5' tall and black hair. I gave her my name and waited. after several people picked up their orders, I began to wonder If she failed to put my order in. Another cashier (White ) noticed that I had been sitting for a while and asked me what was my name and order. she picked up my drink from the holding tray and said this is yours, to which I responded my name is not John, (listed on the cup), but Chuck. she said no this is it because it was described on the cup. I picked up my drink, walked back to the cashier, and said : My name is Chuck, Not John, and she apologized. This is unacceptable. I patronize this starbucks and well as my wife, and son. I have never before had such treatment. To address me for my order with this mundane attitude, after fawning over the white customer ahead of me, then not even getting my name correct is affront to any customer, regardless of color. I hope this message find its way to the right person, because I do like the starbucks and will continue to patronize the place. But we need to treat all customer the same, not just white...
Read moreSince moving to this community in September, i make stop to this starbucks for my beverage before going to work. Yesterday i ordered a refresher x 2 which they messed up no big deal accident happens. This morning i went again for the same thing, i repeated the same thing over over to cashier which is the black lady with the side of her hair shaved with braids. The light skin girl with the glasses making my drink wasn't adding the right ingredients and only took the wrong cup size i brought it to her attention, both ladies started snapping at me in front of other customers as if i was annoying. I remained silent and let her finish making the drink and walked away with the order given to me . As a customer who goes there few times a week and place the same orders i will never allow people to treat me poorly when i am requesting for what i paid for. Thank goodness the young man name chris intervened and gave me the cup of ice i requested with my order so i can get out. I am definitely going to reconsider going there because i definitely do not a nasty attitude to ...
Read moreFor the past four years, I have regularly placed large mobile orders for my employees and always stop in to pick them up. Since the drinks are numerous, I have routinely placed the provided stickers on the cups myself to help prevent spillage during transport. This has never been an issue in the past.
However, during my most recent visit, when I went to get stickers as usual, an employee (Vira? Veera?) scolded me in front of other customers, telling me I needed to ask first. It was not so much what she said, but the way she said it—her tone was belittling, and it left me feeling embarrassed. I could see other customers were also surprised by how harshly it was handled.
I truly enjoy Starbucks and appreciate the service I usually receive, which is why this experience stood out so strongly. I hope this feedback can be taken into consideration to ensure that customers—especially those who visit frequently and place large orders—are treated...
