I don't know man. A friend recommended this while we were in town. Said the chili burger was addictive. I think its more hype due to the historical "Crossroads" thing. Even though, this is not the real crossroads. My wife ordered the ribs. We got rib tips with bones and cartilage 17.95 for that? We didn't want to make a big deal out of it, as a friend recommended the place. Just not great! I got the chili burger, it came on a small paper plate, and was tasteless. The chili burger had like big pieces of cole slaw on it, ruined the chili burger consistency, with a crunch. Why I got it on a small plate made no sense. I felt like no effort was taken to present the food. My fries and slaw came on small plates as well, instead of one big plate, like my wife got. The slaw is not your normal slaw, its vinegar based, not what I was expecting. This place was just not impressive to us. The food was just ok. I had seen the reviews and felt good about going here. Now, we ordered the chili tomales (to go) and they were AWESOME!!! I guess it's all a matter of taste. Maybe I should have gotten the bbq pork sandwich, which is what I would have normally got, but I was told the chili burger was addictive. Not so much! Its all part of the experience. And thats how we learn whats good and whats not, according to...
Read moreIf you’re looking for flavorful BBQ, this is not the place. The food was extremely disappointing — rib tips had absolutely no flavor, and everything tasted bland and unseasoned. Honestly, the food was borderline disgusting for what’s supposed to be BBQ. I ordered the "rib tips" and my husband ordered the tamale. We are from Chicago so we love great food. Well I say come for the historical site, but don't bother eating here. Maybe they were a great restaurant in the past, but currently they need to revamp their entire menu and/or hire a new chef/cook. My rib tips had as much flavor as a rock with vinegar on it and my husband's tamale's resembled dog food. The slaw was supposed to be a vinegar based one, but tasted as plain as the bag they got the shredded cabbage from .
The only positives were the friendly customer service and the good ice (yes, the ice was the best part of the meal, which says a lot). Unfortunately, good service can’t make up for food that completely misses the mark. Would not recommend if you’re coming here for BBQ. Take a few pics and keep on driving to a...
Read moreWas really looking forward to visiting the area and eating BBQ at Abe’s. It did not meet the expectations I had for the BBQ.
We had the rib plate with tater salad and baked beans and a pulled pork sandwich.
Ribs were warm and tender but not overly cooked, had a good pull to get off the bone. Very little or almost no smoke flavor on the meat though. Sauce was bland, no heat or sweet, just sauce. I expected more.
Beans and tater salad were good. Sandwich was good but again no smoke flavor on the meat.
Staff was friendly and food came out in a timely manner.
When I’m back in Clarksdale I do not plan to get BBQ here. There is a better place I found but don’t want to say here, just give them a review instead.
Overall a good visit to Abe’s at The Crossroads. Please get some smoke in your meat and some jazz in your sauce and you are...
