Walking in, the place was quite and dead empty but for one table. It was 3pm after all, after the usual lunch rush. I was already high from the sound of foreign languages and aura of cultural intrigue that permeates the shopping center, and looking inside was like a reprieve. I wasn't overwhelmed. We were quickly welcomed casually by the waiter, who seated and menu'd us up in no time. Two masala teas, garlic naan, veggie thukpa, fried chicken momo.
The tea is still cooling off right now - it came out hot as lava. After it did get bearbale, it's delicious. Smoky and thick like you like masala chai. The naan was a soft, buttery, pizza wedge shape. It was so sweet, but I couldn't tell from what. Best naan I've had in a long time. The veggie thukpa had buckwheat noodles - very thick and chop up easily in the bowl or your mouth. On top was a generous helping of some regular mixed vegetables, which seemed to be marinated in the same broth filling the bowl, which was currylike in the sense that Dal was floating in it, giving some substance. Quite spicy. Overall delicious. The fried chicken momo was to die for, right when it came out. The flavor became a little less intensely rich as they cooled off, but that was when I utilized the lime and chutney that was actually meant to spice up the thukpa, I've now learned, and that did the trick. Overall great dish, and less than a dollar a momo and enough to share.
Overall, categorized. Food 10/10. Affordable and flavorful. Ambience 6/10. Pretty basic, but no obstructions or distracting decor. Service 5/10. Nice gentleman, seemed like he needed some more help, and only a little bit more...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe heyday is over! This used to be one of my favorite restaurants even though cockroaches scurried on the walls here and there. Now, there are serious hygiene issues that cannot be ignored. While waiting for our order, a huge mangy rat darted out from the gnat infested bathroom area and took cover in the bar. Next, the cook came out in his soiled apron all disheveled, dripping with sweat, and shedding hairs. I was thoroughly grossed out by the vermin and the thought of the cook excreting his stench and body secretions into our food. The staff did not seem concerned that rats were squeaking and scuffling in the attic above. They blamed the landlord. Besides the hygiene, the food was not fresh. They could not hide the staleness and sogginess of the samosa chaat by smothering it with yogurt. Compared to before, the chaat had too much potato chunks but not enough chickpeas, tamarind, or cilantro-mint chutney. The chicken momo looked deflated and had a mishmash with cheesy fillers that only slightly resembled the yummy meaty fillings of before. The boogery texture of that mystery meat was disturbing. This place has gone from my best to worst. No wonder they hid their health inspection ratings behind a poster. At the time, it rated a āCā (72/100)! It's not just the deterioration in the quality of their food that will keep me away...it's also for the sake...

My wife's co-worker recommended this spot and we decided to go after making a trip to the farmer's market. When we arrived, I must admit, I wanted to leave (especially since the place was almost empty save another party at a booth) but... decided to trust the recommendation and at least give them a shot.
Our server was very nice and answered all my wife's vegetarian questions and we placed our order.
Hands down... probably the best Indian food I've had in the 25 years I've lived in metro-Atlanta. This place is definitely what food critics would call a hidden gem. While there weren't people dining in, there was a heavy rotation of carry out orders. Our food was hot and fresh and delicious. And for the price you get a ample amount of food.
Unfortunately this place is 45 minutes or more from my home so it definitely made the other Indian/Nepali spots near me hard to go back to. But when we make our next trip to the farmers market or find ourselves in the area... we'll be...
