Having just come back from 2 weeks in India I was looking for a good place to have butter chicken again. We went in on Sunday for lunch and was surprised by how empty it was, which should have been the first indicator. There was only one group of "dudes" sitting and playing some game (back to this in a minute). The service was nice, the waiter came out and provided us with nice drink glasses and real napkins and was attentive to us and this is why they get two stars. As for the buffet, it was horribly anemic in selection. While they did have butter chicken, it was very light on the chicken and was of a shredded chicken variety. It actually looked and tasted like yesterday's tikka chicken had been used, there were small bones, gristle and cartilage along with very little chicken. The rest of the food did not look appetizing and they were missing many of the standard items such as lentils in any form.
Now back to the Dudes, there were two ways to get to the buffet from our table, one the long way around or two, past the "dudes" playing, which was much shorter. However, the "dudes" had spilled over into the walkway to the buffet so, to get to it you had to squeeze past them. They never thought to move out of the way to allow easy passage of paying customers, nor did the waiter attempt to rectify this so after several attempts we ended up walking the long way around.
The naan was slow to arrive because the waiter took too long to put in the order for it so, we were all already done with the first plate by the time it arrived.
We also ordered some mango lassi, which tasted pretty good, with lots of mango flavor.
The next bummer was getting the check. This place was very expensive for the quality of food, service, location and selection. For 2 adults and two kids it was $80 + tip. For that price, I would have expected higher quality food. Also, everyone who had the butter chicken ended up on the toilet the next day for longer than they wanted to. As a reminder to my first statement, I just came back from 2 weeks in India, so I was used to the spices so, it wasn't that causing the issues. I'm just say'n, two weeks in India and I didn't have a single digestive issue until I ate Indian...
Read moreI went there for lunch and ordered the chicken momo and onion kulcha. Onion kulcha was good. The momo was a bit dry/hard. They gave extra sauce. Had a decent conversation with the waitresses but they don’t really come to you for your order. You have to go up because they’re awkward? I also went for dinner and ordered shrimp fried rice and mutton samosa. The mutton samosa was good but you can see all the oil in the box. So bad presentation. Not to mention I didn’t want take out. The shrimp fried rice had shrimps which hadn’t been cleaned properly and was overly cooked/very dry. I ordered a salt lassi at the end which the waitress hadn’t tried and was again delivered in a to go cup. The salt lassi was great! However was upset that the waitress asked me if I had ever eaten there before considering I’m Indian and am very familiar with Indian food. Also other customers were changing the music to hip hop after every two Indian songs and I felt quite disrespected as an Indian. I expect Indian culture when I’m in an Indian establishment. I had to confront the man who kept changing it to hip hop and he said he didn’t know Indian music to which I replied either find out or have someone else DJ. They have karom boards in the back which seem cool and it was lovely when the customers started singing along to the Indian songs. One random lady came into the restaurant and started talking to me which was very uncomfortable. She even touched my arm to get my attention. I...
Read moreI have lived in the Lawrenceville area for a while now. It took me almost 2 years to find a restaurant with Indian food that paid homage to the food itself. During those two years I have had some outrageously disappointing experiences. NOT HERE!
This is the BEST INDIAN FOOD I have eaten in the USA.
I am a huge fan of lamb, and their lamb has always been the most tasty and tender of the bunch. Also the goat dishes that I have tried are OUTSTANDING, perhaps the best rendition of GOAT that I have ever had. Across the globe.
It is not a "fancy" restaurant. It is a place where you can eat authentic, delicious food, served by honest hard working folk.
It is family run, sometimes in some cultures, having the family around is judged differently.
I have been eating there for almost a year, at least weekly. If you come for the food, you will not be disappointed. I drive about an hour and fifteen minutes to eat there.
Thank you for your...
