My family and I have lived across the bridge from the M Mart in Tucker for years. We generally shop at the larger supermarket chains for our major grocery supplies, but occasionally, we have to make a quick run to M Mart for a forgotten item or a convenient pickup. Under previous management (as Thrifttown), I never particularly enjoyed those convenient visits because the store was dated and it felt like walking into a time warp that just didn't fit the changes in the culturally diverse neighborhood around it. So, hats off to the new management for investing in updates and improvements. It's a more pleasant experience shopping there now. The well marked aisles of ethnic products that actually reflect the customer base is an important enhancement. Finally, I appreciate the fact that the new M Mart is deliberate in hiring cashiers that also reflect the face, culture, and religion of the clientele. But please, don't fall into the error of getting lazy about giving good, solid customer service. There exists a perception that foreign-owned shops don't know how to give quality customer service. Not all of your customers are internationals. Some, like me, are locals with a certain expectation regarding customer service and treatment in business. Finally, the sign telling people not to bring bookbags in the store is a bad look and a terrible gesture. I hate being perceived as a thief upon stepping into a store that I'm going to give my business and money to. It's tacky and feels like profiling. Updating the physical store, but maintaining an outdated mentality about managing shoplifting is a customer service...

As we rounded the last aisle, some store employees said hello. I responded and was promptly ignored. They then followed us and kept on repeating, "Mexican, Mexican, Mexican..." . Mind you, my husband is ethnically from a Central American country and I'm Asian. I have no intention of coming back after that encounter. I also want to make note that there are a lot of reviews here where the person has only made 1 positive 5 star review for M-Mart. I'm not sure if those are friends, family, or employees but it seems very...
Read moreA good local stop. It doesn't have the most modern interior - you'll feel like a time traveler when you walk in. The prices on many items are pretty good, but you'll occasionally find a brand name item that's super expensive. Great international offerings - I've heard that they'll work with you to get different items that they don't have in stock, though I've never done that myself. Overall, a good resource in the community and a good...
