I seen this place online and wanted to give it a shot. I ordered the bonn mi burger and the kimchi mac salad. I will say that the burger does have great flavor and the crispy edges are great. The buns soft and well toasted. The only thing I would say is that you don't get a true like meaty burger flavor, but that's also because there's you know various toppings on top of that burger so that would hinder the meatiness. So next time I would definitely try the OG classic burger. But all in all I still think it is in the top 10 of good smash burgers. The kimchi mac salad was very flavorful. I think it could use a little bit more salt to bring out the flavor well spiced I like that little bit of heat to it made my nose sweat and the crunch on top. That was a great touch. I would definitely suggest ordering that as well along with your burger choice. I know for a fact that I'll probably order it again. I did not order fries so I give their fries a shot but fries are fries to me. The place is very clean. The staff was friendly. I believe one of the gentlemen that was there was the owner. He seemed to be like a great person, so that's a plus, especially amongst your staff. All in all, I would give this place a 9 out of 10. There's always a little bit room for improvement. Hopefully they Open a location closer to the west side of Cleveland more towards the airport but if they don't I would definitely travel back here. One thing I would definitely say is a negative is the parking's not the best especially with a lot of cars getting broken into nowadays. You kind of like park your car and a dark parking lot and to me that's just seeming like a break-in in the waiting but other than that everything...
Read moreCame from Youngstown to see a show in the area. Needed a bathroom stepped in and they had one, so, decided to try out the food. I'm pretty big on Burgers, usually get one everywhere I go. I expected a decent burger, especially when the price is $16. But what I received far exceeded any expectation I could have possibly had.
I got the O.G. and the Sweet Heat burgers, one with a side of fries the other with Onion Rings. My girlfriend got the Classic Dog and one of their house made Seltzers. The O.G. was a simple classic burger you'd expect to find at most places, double smashed patties, cheese, lettuce, pickles, but what truly set it apart was the caramelized onions and Doinks sauce. Everything just came together beautifully. The Sweet Heat had a bit more to it, including house made BBQ sauce, pepper jam, bacon and onion rings. Holy **, absolutely awesome, the bacon on that burger is unreal. My girlfriend wasn't super hungry but liked the Sauerkraut on the hot dog so much she actually finished it. She was also super impressed with the fries and the Seltzer, and the onion rings are also great.
The thing that really sets Doinks apart from most of the places I've been to lately is the attention to quality. Absolutely everything feels like they hand picked it to be there, real bacon, house made everything, great tasting veggies, and a super stripped down but inventive menu. As someone who primarily spends my money on burgers when I go out this place super surprised me. Are you going to have to wait? Probably, is the restaurant small? Yeah. But, I think if you happen to be in the Waterloo area you'd be missing out big time not trying it. I'll...
Read moreWas invited to Doinks by a friend a couple of days ago. Been wanting to try it anyway, so I didn’t hesitate saying yes. Pretty cool spot on Waterloo. Street parking right in front, or there’s a community lot behind the building. I glanced the menu and quickly fixated on the Bonn Mi. Had to try it. Option of fries or upgrade to onion rings. I typically upgrade to onion rings, unless the fries are hand cut - and that they are here! Nice! Fries jt is. The burger was good… very tasty and flavorful. The jalapeños and kimchi worked well to emulate the “bahn mi” spirit. What I didn’t know is that they are smash burgers. I suppose I should have known when they didn’t ask me how I like my burger done. I always get medium. I’m not opposed to smash burgers, but I prefer a thick and juicy patty… and for $16, I thought it’s a bit pricey for a smash burger. Price aside, no complaints!
Before our food came, my friend insisted that I try their pickle back shot. Pickle what??? They have a bar!!! It’s a shot of Jameson chased with a shot of spicy pickle juice. Sounded gross, but I’ll play. Shot was smooth! Next was the chaser. I was skeptical, but a few seconds after downing it… it surprisingly worked well. Pretty good!
Then I decided to take a purple ube cheesecake to go. Pretty good way to cap off the night at home!
4 stars for doinks, and ZERO stars for me for forgetting to take...
