Fair warning...the stars are based on the 2 Korean dishes we had, not the sushi.
Since our go-to sushi joint for the last 20+ years is temporarily closed due to a burst water pipe, I've been trying new places to satisfy my sushi jones. I was recommended this place by an acquaintance as having great sushi, so after last weeks disappointing experience at the CONVEYOR BELT sushi place, I figured we'd give Ha Ahn a try.
Located in the same building as Superior Pho, we've walked past this restaurant several times, and last night we finally stopped in. We arrived around 6:15 p.m. on a Friday and got the last 3 seats that were available. The waitress, although very busy, did a good job of staying on top of the customers and the to-go orders. There is seating for about 36 people or so. Hence, on a weekend night, probably an early or late dinner is your best bet for getting a seat. Also, I think the largest table seats 6.
To the food.....We ordered Yaki Gyoza as an appetizer. There were 8 deep fried dumplings that arrived hot and perfectly fried. The filling was VERY tasty. I could have just kept ordering those all night I like them so.
Our youngest (a beef lover like myself) ordered Beef Bulgogi. It also came sizzling hot. The beef was fresh and tender (as we say in our family, it did NOT have that "wet dog" flavor that is present in so many beef dishes at lesser restaurants) and the veggies were cooked perfectly. A very nice stir fry dish. I'd order this on my next trip.
My wife and I ordered the "Sushi and Sashimi Regular" which had 6 pieces sushi, 6 pieces sashimi and 1 maki roll. The roll, which I think was a California roll, was very tasty. We also ordered a "Rock and Roll" big roll which was pretty good.
As far as the quality of the sushi and sashimi is concerned, from my experience of eating raw fish for over 40 years, it was mediocre. I don't like to say many negative things in my reviews, but I have to be honest when I speak of raw fish.
We will DEFINITELY be back to explore more of the Korean dishes that this little gem...
Read moreThis restaurant is truly a hidden gem of Cleveland Asia town! I had been looking for authentic Korean restaurant, and I wished I had found this place sooner! Located inside the shared building with other Asian restaurants, is this very own Ha Ahn restaurant
We were greeted by the staff and was seated right away (since the space was quite small, if you go during lunch or dinner rush, expect some wait time, though they also offer takeout) You will be offered a set of Banchan (complimentary side dishes to go with your meal), that I find it so much fun to try out different fermented vegetable as well as kimchi, but my favourite has to be the fish cakes.
We have tried Tteokbokki (in a spicy sweet sauce),and homemade steamed dumpling served with soy sauce. Both are great appetizers to share
My most favorite dishes would be Galbi (grilled marinated short rib), Spicy pork bulgogi, Bibimbap (ground beef and vegetable rice bowl) and Soft tofu soup. They also offer lunch special which comes with salad, seaweed salad, fried gyoza, and kimchi for a reasonable price. They will give you a cute little bottle of the complimentary sweet probiotic drinks after the meal as well.
The food came out in a reasonable time, service was great, the lady who helped us was very nice and helpful. They also offer various sushi menu, which I have to check out in another time.
I would recommend this place for anyone who loves Korean food to give it a try. Apparently they have been open for at least 10 years now, I do hope they will be here for at least another...
Read moreThis Korean restaurant is open on Mondays which most are not. We were craving for Korean food and this was in the Chinatown area. It wasn’t easy finding this restaurant because it didn’t really say up close, there is another name in front awning “Golden Plaza”. There are several shops inside once you walk inside through the walkway. Small little shop and I wasn’t sure if we chose a good spot but like they say don’t judge the book by it’s cover. I was impressed how friendly this family own restaurant is and the food was really great. When you run out of the side dish they will give you more except for the rice if it’s extra you want for a small price. Selection for me was hard to decide because I am picky and I don’t eat seafood. My family chose sushi and another dish. I had the Galbi (charcoaled grilled beef short ribs), was the easiest choice for me and it was delicious. This little shop was a great choice especially for Monday if you want Korean. Inside is small with basic decor but the food here made it Gigantic. I would recommend coming to give it a shot and support local...
