I will NEVER return to this establishment. My boyfriend and I entered the estabishment to get lunch. Right away this place is a dive. The atmosphere is dark and the decor is outdated. My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and got two sodas and began placing our orders. The server brought our drinks and took our order cards.
We then prceeded to sit and wait for our food. After that it was like I had vanished. Not once did the staff ask myself or my boyfriend if we needed any refills. When the food did come out it was only my boyfriends order. I continued to sit and wait for my food: A simple hotdog with Bacon, Ketchup and Mustard along with a side of Fries with Nacho cheese and bacon on it. My boyfriend had literally enough time to completely eat one of his hot dogs and get a take out box for his second hot sog. Not ONCE did another server or waiter bring anything else to our spot at the bar. It was like my simple order dissapeared. Nothing came out for me at all, I was left completely bare at this estabishment. During the time I was waiting I watched four to five more orders go out and not once was my food ever even sighted.
When the server did bring our check they attempted to bill us for my order as well. I told the staff I never recieved my food and they checked on the situation. When the server returned they asked if I still wanted it. At this point I'm furious and my boyfriend is ready to leave. Thankfully when I said I did not want it they removed it from our check. I was extremely upset that I was completely ignored and my order was entirely overlooked. Is this how you treat new customers at your estabishment for the first time?? I'll never return to a place that cant even offer me a...
Read moreI love the Happy Dog! This is one of the first places I got to experience when I first moved to Cleveland. When you are craving a cold brew and a hearty hot dog with some pizzazz, this is the place!
I went at the end of April to see a friend's band, The Boom Shakalakas (who are a lot of fun!) This place has been a great venue for many local talents. It has also been a staple for Dyngus Day year in and year out. I always make a point to stop by that time of year.
Service has always been friendly and attentive, and such was the case this time as well. A nice selection of local and domestic brews makes it easy to find something familiar, or try something new. The environment is very relaxed. It's easily one of those places where you feel at home.
Can't stop by without grabbing a hot dog! I love being able to craft your own dog from a long list of creative (and sometimes crazy) toppings. At $6 for a dog and $4 for tots, it may seem steep for such simple foods. The dog is top notch, and the portion of tots is generous. The toppings on the dogs are limitless, and you can easily build a meal out of one dog and an order of tots.
Lately I've been on a breakfast kick. My latest creation consisted of a Fried Egg, Sport Peppers, Cherry Pepper Relish, and Everything Bagel Cream Cheese. Throw in some Tots with Chorizo Chili and Pimento Mac n' Cheese and you're set!
Each time I've gone has been a good time. Nice staff, good beer, and delicious food. They stick with what they're great at, and it shows time and time again. Add this to your list, and it will easily...
Read moreIt is with a heavy heart that I give this poor rating. Happy Dog is a place that was once near and dear to my heart. Good atmosphere, great food, lots of beer and cocktails to choose from, and above all... low prices. So fond was I of Happy Dog, that it was the first place I brought several different friends to eat when they would visit from out of town. None of them believed me when I told them you could get a hot dog with weird stuff like cheetos and alien pickle relish on it. Well... Happy Dog made believers out of them.
But that time has passed, and purely due to the choices of the owners and leadership at Happy Dog to openly and unapologetically discriminate against those who might otherwise be thrilled to spend money at their establishment. Why? Because the choices made by those potential patrons doesn't align politically with the ideals and stances of the aforementioned owners/leadership. My body, my choice? Happy Dog says your body is theirs to dictate what you do with. Shame on them for letting their politics dictate who they allow to enter or enjoy their once amazing business.
If the folks who operate Happy Dog decide to reverse this discriminatory and frankly illegal policy, I will not only edit this review and return... but do so gladly and with friends. But until that day, I will close by saying this: Happy Dog is great if you don't care about personal freedom of choice and want a wonderful meal and low prices, but avoid it if you have any value for your freedom to choose what you do with...
