Never before been here but I’ve been wanting to for so long! The parking is awful, I had to park on the street. Everyone (primarily the workers) loves to stare and give looks which was intimidating and made my sister and I not feel welcome. I felt rushed to order but I still didn’t know what I wanted because I’ve never been here… so I asked the girl behind the counter. To which the other workers stared even harder and the girl could barely hear us asking for help. Her help was not useful, I wanted an explanation or direction, she seemed new and young and I was overwhelmed. Then I paid $9.50 for a tiny box of biscuits and gravy that are not original. They were bland and not what I expected, especially for $10. My sister ordered a cinnamon dulce latte and it wasn’t very sweet. She asked for more sweetness to which the girl got an attitude. Everything was just uncomfortable and I will never be back.

Metropolitan Coffee provides a complete coffee shop experience. Metropolitan has wifi, parking, a patio, plenty of seating (with outlets), coffee(Rising Star), treats, friendly staff, Cleveland themed art and goods, and an environment that invites anyone to sit and stay a while. Additionally, it offers Yoga classes, participates in City Fresh, and is involved with neighborhood and city events. The southern corner of of Portman and Broadview used to be a closed convenience store. Now, it's a locally owned, neighborhood focused business where anyone can go to enjoy coffee and each other's company. It seems clear that the purpose of Metropolitan is to provide a quality environment and experience to everyone in the neighborhood of Old Brooklyn and the greater Cleveland area. It does just that.

Update: 5/3/19, I just tried the Brazilian coffee and it is my new favorite! Thanks ladies. Yum...and that Blueberry bunt cake was very tasty too. 2018 - Finally a great spot for coffee and a nibble so close to my neighborhood. I would much rather come to a locally owned coffee house that has such a friendly and inviting feel to it then a chain. It is a very good addition to the Old Brooklyn area. The overall look is very appealing inside and out. It's about time that there are more new businesses taking up occupancy here. I also saw in the paper that in mid-July Lilly Handmade Chocolates will be moving into the area too. Just down the street from the Metropolitan on Schaaf Rd.. They are moving here from Tremont. Wow, great coffee and great chocolates how can you beat that!

Since I love coffee, I had to check out the newest java joint in Old Brooklyn, Metropolitan Coffee last week. They are located at the corner of Portman Ave. and Broadview Road. Upon entering this place, you immediately notice a strong Cleveland vibe with tees, prints, black and white photographs all for sale. You can even purchase a black and white photograph with a " piece of the park" ( a sliver of wood ) from a seat taken out of old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. Nothing like nostalgia... Their logo has the infamous "guardians of transportation" from the Hope Memorial (Lorain Carnegie) bridge with a steaming mug of coffee positioned between their two hands (probably to keep those stone hands warm, ha) and, the decor includes vinyl retro chairs and couch, a long church pew and 2 murals of the Cleveland downtown skyline and skateboards (minus the wheels) hanging on the wall. It's very bright inside with lots of antique-looking iron crossed lights and the large windows capture the sun in front. Check out the glass table with the iron wheels in the center of the room. A conversation starter. Very cool. In keeping with the local theme, Rising Star is their roaster of choice. I enjoyed a hot cup along with a freshly baked and tasty chocolate chip cookie. They also have scones and muffins waiting to temp your sweet tooth. The owner, Deirdre, was present and she was very enthusiastic about her new venture. The baristas, Jenna and Christie, were very friendly too. If you're into yoga (like me), they have classes twice a week for a nominal fee. Maybe a decaf before class?? ...

I moved here from the Seattle area and one thing that I miss from home is the little coffee shops. They were everywhere and they had awesome coffee. I couldn't find anything like them until Metropolitan opened. It feels like home. They do a beautiful job with their coffees. I've never had anything other than greatness from Metropolitan. Rising Star roasts their coffee and it's always perfect. This is a nut free zone. The in-house baker is incredible and everything is safe for people with nut allergies. The owner is an absolute doll. She's sweet, brilliant and her vision for the neighborhood is beautiful. She's made an oasis and it's a huge part of Old Brooklyn rising back up. She's doing everything she can to protect her staff and patrons during the pandemic, while still making our experience lovely and fun. I love how important her people are to her. She goes above and beyond what we could hope for as patrons. The garden and garden patio she made for her customers is so pretty and so thoughtful of her. The staff are very diverse and fun. They are kind, fast working, and consistent. I have yet to be let down in the couple years I've been going here. It's hands down my favorite place in NE Ohio. I've once waited an hour for their scones to finish baking because that's how phenomenal they are. I've driven 35 minutes out of my way on several occasions for coffee from Metropolitan.

There's coffee shops and then there's Metropolitan, which is like a coffee home.

Love it on...

I called beforehand to specifically inquire about decaffeinated coffee, as it is for an adult with special needs who is not allowed to consume caffeinated coffee, due to his list of medications. The woman who answered the phone said that they do serve decaf coffee. So we proceed to drive 15-20 minutes out of our way to support a local business over DD. When we arrive, the woman behind the counter says they do not serve decaf coffee, only decaf expresso. When I called, I specifically inquired about decaf coffee, and they should have mentioned about decaf espresso over the phone, versus having to tell us this info after we already drove 20 minutes out of our way to support this business. The woman proceeds to say that it was probably someone in training, and I said that perhaps this person in training needs more training or should not be answering the phone. The woman appeared completely unsympathetic, all while the special needs adult started to have a meltdown.

I would not recommend this place, based off the insensitivity and lack of competency...
