“If you’re from Cleveland and haven’t been to Slyman’s — are you even from Cleveland?”
This St. Clair Avenue staple has been serving up legendary corned beef since 1964, and let me tell you — it lives up to the hype. Whether you’re a regular or just passing through, Slyman’s delivers that perfect blend of flavor, tradition, and heart.
I ordered the Lite Classic Corned Beef sandwich with Swiss — still stacked high, just not the full beast. The corned beef was insanely tender, juicy, and full of flavor. No dryness, no chew — just pure deli greatness. The Swiss added that perfect salty punch, and the rye bread was soft and fresh, holding it all together like a champ.
I paired it with the bacon cheese fries, which were everything you’d hope for — golden fries smothered in melted cheddar and topped with crispy bacon. Zero regrets. Pure indulgence.
Food-wise? 8.5/10. Portion, quality, and taste were all on point. Presentation was clean and solid, especially for a quick-turnaround deli. But the best part? The woman at the register.
As she ran my card, she looked up, smiled, and said, “Thank you, Justin, for stopping by. People from out of town really make this place magical for us.”
That moment stuck with me. It was simple, heartfelt, and reminded me why Slyman’s is more than just a sandwich shop — it’s a piece of Cleveland’s soul. I didn’t catch her name, but that kindness is something I won’t forget.
Slyman’s is open Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 2:30 PM. No weekends. So plan ahead and show up hungry.
Bottom line: Slyman’s isn’t trendy, it’s timeless. It’s the kind of place that makes locals proud and visitors feel welcome. If you’re in town, go experience it for yourself — one bite, and...
Read moreThis is the BEST corned beef in the country. I will say that one more time. This is the BEST corned beef in the country. I grew up in the Detroit suburbs with many good Jewish delis. We have nothing this good. I have been to New York over 30 times. Always liked the Carnegie more than Star or Katz's (so friggin overrated) but Slymans puts them all to shame. LA's corned beef is nothing special. I live in FL and we have a couple of Jewish people down here and a few delis....and I have flown to Cleveland 3 times (so far)[UPDATE: 6 times] ONLY to go to Slyman's. Have also made detours from Indy, Buffalo, and Cinci to stop by. One trip I had to go to Detroit so I instead flew into Cleveland, rented a car, swung by Slymans for 5lbs. of corned beef, and then drove the 3 hours to Detroit. Would have visited even more but a few times I was close it was a weekend and they are not open! I dream of this corned beef. I dont want you to know how good it is. I dont want you going there because they do run out - but I cant keep it quiet. Cleveland, Ohio has the best corned beef I have ever eaten. Bless...
Read moreTitle: Disappointing Experience Due to Poor Sanitation Practices
I recently visited Slyman's Restaurant and Deli, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. One of the most concerning aspects of my visit was the lack of proper sanitizing procedures. In a time when cleanliness should be a top priority, it appeared that the staff at Slyman's might not be adhering to basic hygiene standards.
During my visit, I witnessed something quite shocking. I saw staff members spill meat onto the floor, and instead of disposing of it, they picked it up and placed it back on the preparation surfaces. This kind of unhygienic practice is unacceptable in any restaurant setting and raises serious concerns about what else might be happening behind the scenes.
I had high expectations for Slyman's given its reputation, but the visible lapse in sanitation practices left me feeling uneasy about dining there. I sincerely hope that the management takes these concerns seriously and implements stricter cleanliness protocols to ensure a safe and pleasant dining experience for all patrons...
