Insanely overpriced. I've passed this place a million times and finally tried it with my family. We scanned the menu and noticed very curious pricing that signaled either particularly large portions or particularly high quality ingredients. The menu items that stuck out as particularly pricey were $21 for nachos appetizer, $24 for a steak quesadilla appetizer, $29 for a steak Caesar salad, $22 for a Cobb Salad, $16 for a kids menu cheeseburger and fries, $5 soda, and $5 tea (see the pic of the menu) . Most of the other menu items were also on the higher end of the price range but I have seen similar prices for those items at other restaurants so I thought maybe those items were large and/or very good. We ended up ordering nachos, kids cheeseburger, regular sized bacon burger, a Philly cheesesteak, and two sodas. For $21 the nachos were bad (see pic). There was hardly any cheese on it, the chips were soggy and some were burnt badly. I order nachos often wherever I go and I'd say their nachos should have been priced around $10-$12, but even at that price point the lack of cheese would've been a problem. The kids burger was basically two slider sized burger patties in a bun with fries, a drink and a scoop of ice cream. $16 was high but not crazy high and I'd say it was worth more like $12-$14. The adult bacon burger was greasy with a small slice of bacon in it and, once again, was not worth $19. It was worth closer to $15. The Philly cheese steak was small and also greasy (see pic). For $22 I expected a lot better and this should have been more like $15-$16. All said and done our bill came to $92 and after tip it was a little over $110. That's an unreasonable amount of money for the food we received. Lastly, we were seated in one of their booths and when I sat down I sank about 4 inches down. I had to slide over to the end of my booth bench seat near the wall. There was some kind of hole or major dent in the seat cushion but there was no obvious damage to the upholstery. I think it goes without saying that no matter what caliber of restaurant you dine at they should all provide tables and seats that don't have major damage. I decided to live with it since the end of the bench seat was OK. However at the end of the meal after I signed the bill and we were ready to leave I mentioned the issue with the seat to the waitress in a friendly tone of "just to let you know" and not a complaint. She responded that they knew about it and that's it. If you know the seat is damaged why don't you fix it? (or at least don't seat people there unless you have no choice, when we ate there the place was 90% empty and there were tons of other open tables available). I like to support local businesses but I can't see returning to this place nor could I recommend others try it. I know the costs of doing business have gone up for restaurants and lots of other businesses. I expect and have seen price increases at almost all businesses I use. However there's a limit to how much of those costs you can transfer to your customers, depending on what you're selling. There is only so much customers will be willing to pay for things like burgers and nachos of this caliber. Unlike costs the restaurant staff has total control over things like caring about customers enough to fix a busted seat before seating them on it. There's no excuse for that.

Pretty casual atmosphere here with an ample amount of mounted tvs giving off the classic sports bar vibe. From the outside, I love the barnhouse style of the building and upon entering it just gives off a very homey and comfortable vibe. Moving onto the food itself, it was decent in my opinion. Not bad but definitely not the greatest I’ve ever had. Since this is a “steakhouse”, I had to go with a steak and I chose the Delmonico, which is one of my favorite cuts by far. For the portion it definitely was 24oz as advertised. I asked for medium rare and it came out medium, and parts of the ends were a little tough for my liking. The flavor itself was good, with a little extra pepper and salt it tasted great. The side if mushroom and onions was good too and not too oily. The fries though were unsalted which honestly I sometimes prefer but it tasted a little stale. Good crisp though so I’ll give them that. The fire roasted buffalo wings were really good and is one of the main reasons I may come back. The wings were very crispy and the buffalo sauce had a very good tang and spice. All in all its a decent spot. If I do come back though, it’d be for the burgers and wings as other patron’s who ordered the burger, it looked pretty good.

I've been coming to the Alexis steakhouse since college. It has been a long while since I have been there and I have to say there Delmonico steak is as great as I remember it and a must order. It's fatty and juicey and very large and filling at 24oz. At the price and for the quality it is still a bargain. 20 years ago it was $16/$18 dollars and one hell of a deal. At $33 which is the current price it's a bit more expensive but still a good deal for the quality. With the drink prices and the service I must say I will definitely be dining there a lot more than I have in the past few years. And since it's a college bar right across the street from Montclair State hit the happy hour with app and drink specials it has everything for the young and older crowd. I give this place 5 stars not only for my own fond memories but for those who want to make their own memories at the Alexis steakhouses.

Before I give my opinion, I'll walk you through my experience at Alexus's. After walking through the doors, I felt like I was in hill billy hell but my friend said give it a chance. I wanted to try out a new steak house and found this location on my GPS but what I should have done prior to visiting this God forsaken place was review these reviews. The young lady who greeted us was fairly nice and asked if we would like a booth. I said yes, thank you that would be great. Gregg (6268) was our server and in all my years going out to eat, he is the worst server ever. His demeanor was that of someone who did not care to serve people like me and my friend. When he came back with our drinks, he said that he had forgotten which drink was mine and which was my friends. Who does that? After we tested to see which drink was ours, my friend asked if he can have a coke but Gregg said they didn’t have coke. What establishment does not have coke? At this point, I knew we were dealing with a jerk. Before and after placing our entrée orders, he never checked on us. I watched him and how he interacted with other guests. With them, he was pleasant and eager to serve. So I was done, we asked if we can have our food to go. But they brought our food out on plates anyway. We asked Gregg for the carry outs and we will place our own food in the containers. I didn’t want him to do anything to our food. (You figure it out) He practically through the containers at us. My friend asked if we can have some utensils to place our food in the containers. I guess we were suppose to use our hands. Then, he throws two unwrapped forks and knives on our table. We paid for our food (without a tip of course) and got the hell out of there. We didn’t even receive a thank you or a goodnight from the two chicks at the front desk. I normally don’t write reviews but this was a no- brainier, I felt that I needed to. I GIVE ALEXUS STEAK HOUSE AND TAVERN, NOT ONE DAMN STAR. There are other establishments that are far better and pleasant, THANK GOD. And as for Gregg, our server, next time wear your white sheet with the eye...

First visit was the opening week of 2022 when getting a bite with a neighbor and friend. The Del Monico was surprisingly lean for that type of cut. I was expecting more fat through the meat, but the meat had great flavor, was very tender, and again leaner than expected. The fat marbling was more similar to a Ribeye than a Del Monico, but still had all the tenderness and taste. Winning!!!

The mashed potatoes on the other hand was awful and just shy of uneatable. They had the consistency of freshly mashed potato mixed with INSTANT! Think instant potato that wasn't mixed well and having a consistency of dried powdered flakes. Pass on the mashed. It was gross. (A steakhouse that can't make a good mashed is as bad as a steakhouse that doesn't offer creamed spinach and theirs isn't creamed, just sauteed).

Also, if you call yourself a steakhouse, then please teach your servers how to properly describe the difference of steak cuts other than, "it's better" and "one of them has more fat" but cannot indicate which one.

I'd go there again, but it's only after trying other recommended places first.

Yes, 4 stars even with the shortcomings. The restaurant was clean and so were the restrooms. The staff was attentive even if they weren't informative. The bar wasn't depressing, didn't smell like week old beer, and had enough screens to have multiple games/programs playing conveniently for everyone to watch. Location and onsite parking was good. Having glass/plexi between bar and restaurant seating was great. It allowed folks in the dining area to still watch the screens without being inundated by the loudness of the bar crowd. The steak was that much better than most in the same price group. It was properly cooked to the ordered temperature even if the server had no idea what the temperature of black and blue meant. Hint: Black and blue is different than simply rare. I'm glad your...
