For the price of the food this place should be a lot better. I felt the prices were too high for what you get. Steak prices were insane. The cost of the ribeye was 72 dollars. I had the chicken/rib dinner, which I think it was 32 dollars. It's just some chicken strips, a precooked quarter slab of ribs, that tasted like it was from the grocery store and some fries. This place is far from fine dining, and the meals were far from fine. My mother had the peaches and scallops, and while some what visual appealing, the taste was not. Heavy fishy taste from the scallops is a tell tale sign they were getting old and / or about to expire. Or they are not fresh but at one point frozen and thawed out. For the price it should be fresh. My dad and wife really enjoyed the mushroom soup, but everything else was subpar for price taste ratio. Went here for my birthday and was extremely disappointed with my decision to come here. 😞 my advice is if you do come here, take a look at the menu before committing to this place. I regret that I didn't. Like the old saying, you can put lipstick on a pig it's still a pig. IE, you can have a nice-looking restaurant and ambiance. But if the food is sub-par, it's just an expensive diner. I might have just had a bad meal or meals for our party, but we won't be back. For the cost of the meal we could have gone somewhere great.

So it was a pretty bad start our reservation isn't ready, try to wait, ask the host how long this is gonna be and she says these people have been here way over the allowed time. Tells the manager and says they need to go, manager says ok, walks over, pauses, gets cold feet, keeps walking and disappears. Couldn't effin believe it. Reserved the holiday themed area for a reason as we had family from out of town and wanted an extra special experience, so much for that. Sad thing is, that manager, that's it, him. Larger fellow about 6'2" reminded me of a character from a movie w/o courage. Anyway as we sit in the boring side, lamb chops were delicious, meatballs were disgusting, basically got the server to admit there is no wagyu in them. Filet mignon was cooked perfectly and very tender, great cut. Alaskan halibut was great. Cedar plank salmon exquisite. We did get a survey, and did fill it out, I never look for anything from my reviews as far as compensation the review is the review it's what we experienced. But they did send us a $25 gift as a result of that. Not sure when we'll be back, but will hold on to it. They did give us a credit for $17.00 I believe that was for the meatballs almost forgot.

We went here to celebrate my birthday this year and were pleasantly surprised. The food and drinks were all excellent and the service was lovely. We got The Girl Next Door and Strawberry Fields drinks, they were decently strong and well balanced, the real strawberries on the stick in the drink were perfect too, definitely worth it. We started with the J.Baldwin's Award-Winning Calamari, and while we were happy with it we weren't sure if we would get it again due to just how greasy/soggy they were but they were thick slices which made up for it a bit. The bread was one of the best parts of the meal. Our entrees, the Grilled Angus Sirloin Steak (Medium Rare) and Shrimp & Grits, were perfectly cooked and tasty. Having grits for the first time, it seemed to have a rather coarse texture, but it could very well be meant to be like that as im not well versed in that dish. The prices are somewhat costly, but I felt like the total was worth it for the quality and amount of food we got. Our waitress also gave us a lovely slice of Chocolate cake to celebrate. We absolutely plan to come back.

I’ve been coming back to this restaurant because each time I come, the nice young owner always makes sure he greeted us and make us feel at home. This time, surprisingly, the owner wasn’t there. We ordered the Brussels sprouts as appetizers, a hot boss pizza and truffle Parmesan fries. We got the brussel sprouts in no time. However, the pizza and fries took literally 55 minutes and then when it came out, it was the wrong pizza. Please note that we have our 6 month old baby with us so having a fussy baby is no fun and we just want to get out tonight as our date night with the baby. We first came here during our anniversary as a couple and have been coming here since. The server was apologetic enough however what got me writing this review is how the manager handled it. Please note that I didn’t ask for the manager, however when he came back, he non chalantly just said, “oh I was talking to the owners and my server was freaking out that she got your pizza wrong” but you got another one coming right. And we said, no we can’t wait anymore as she’s being fuzzy and we will just eat this pizza. He didn’t even sound sincere or even made mention how it took almost an hour to get the pizza and after we got it, it was wrong. Then he came back with the check, saying, oh we took the pizza off like it’s a favor. No sincere apology that we were there on our date night with our baby and we didn’t even get to eat what we came there to eat. And we should be grateful that they took the wrong pizza off our bill? That’s how he sounded when he came over. No sincere apology because we wasted our time waiting. Mistakes happen. I get it. But own up to it and...

Went here with the wife this saturday night (28dec, 2024) and seen they had some rando dude playing a guitar; ODD. Why. Is this supposed to be a nice restaurant, or a bar at 9 & van dyke? Not sure now. Usually you try live entertainment on the slow days of the week, if you have slow days that is. If you're doing it on a Sat. night, is there something wrong? No other nice place has it. At any rate, place was FILLED with REALLY bummy, white trash people. Jeans and tennis shoes filled the area, and not even nice jeans or tennis shoes lol. Even seen a few mullets not joking. Combine this with the live entertainment, and you REALLY ARE stepping foot into some dive at 9 & van dyke. Ruined the place. At any rate, we ordered the filets and they were cooked perfectly, and could almost cut them with the fork-perfect. The waiter knew EVERYthing about the wines they offered (REALLY rare) and the christmas drink my wife ordered (with prosecco, simple syrup w/ glitter and orange) was soo good I had to have one, and could have had 5 more. Hadn't tasted a mixed drink like that in YEARS. Overall we had a GREAT night here, and would LOVE to go back, but just cant get over the massive amount of white trash in that place, and the live entertainment. It's a shame too because with the way their waiters are trained you could instill a minor dress code and ditch the live entertainment, and actually charge a little more for your food and drinks, and you'd see a higher end clientele start to show up here. There's a TON of money in this area believe it or not and I feel a lot of them stay away from this place due to the Denny's...

WOW! WOW! WOW!

I no longer live on the east side so it has been years since I have visited J Baldwins. Took my son, daughter-in-law and grandson there for an early dinner while they were in town because I remember always loving the calamari. We did not have a reservation, but they happily accommodated us with my grandsons stroller.

Atmosphere: Perfect, not to dark, not too light, well decorated, clean bathrooms and filled with friendly locals!

Service: Phenomenal! Not only did we have an awesome server, but the manager and other staff members stopped over to check in on us.

Appetizers: Calamari and Bruschetta were AMAZING! They also served us with warm garlic bread and olive oil herb dipping sauce was delicious.

Dinner: I have an allergy to carrots and wanted to try the meatloaf. The server came back and noted that there were carrots in the meatloaf and provided me with other options. I opted for the Filet and WOW was it great! Cooked to perfection. The broccoli and mashed potatoes were yummy as well. My son ordered the short ribs and he said it was the best he has ever had at any restaurant. My daughter-in-law ordered the Chicken Bella. I tasted it, it was so delicious that I placed an additional order to go!

Drinks: Daughter-in-law said her margarita was the best she has ever had and that's saying something!

We are all foodies who love fine dining and a good restaurant when we find one! We hit the goldmine at J Baldwins. The food was high-end with a fabulous variety to choose from!

I cannot wait to visit again!

Thank you J Baldwins, hope to...
