This great little mom and pop Tex Mex restaurant has some of the best tasting Tex Mex food this girl has had the pleasure of shoving in her "pie hole" for a very long time! But if you wanna eat here someone in your group will have to yell, "ROAD TRIP!!" And don't forget to claim "Shotgun" cause the only way to experience this fantastic flavor in your "pie hole" is to drive to Lake Jackson. I was there last week to visit and help care for my Daddy while my stepmom took some more than well deserved time off of her sudden new job title of sole caregiver. But the night before she left, she took us out for dinner at "El Portillo's" . Upon our entrance we were warmly greeted by the owner who treated us like we were the only ones there. It felt like we walked into her home, not her restaurant. She took us to our table and before we could even think about it the extremely efficient staff had water w/lemon glasses for us (a long forgotten, but still very much appreciated, tradition.) And two baskets of their made in house chips and salsa that were really awesome. But don't get carried away on the chips and two types of salsa they start you out with, cause what ever you decide to order from the menu, the best is yet to come. I had the Tacos El Carbon that was so delicious it made my taste buds do the "happy dance". And of course who can resist washing it all down with a perfectly made frozen margarita? We all had a great meal and fine time. So if you're ever planning a road trip down south do not forget to stop by El Portillo Tex Mex before you head back home. And try the Tacos El Carbon, actually I heard all the Tacos are really good and the enchiladas didn't get left behind either. I might be wrong, but I thought I caught my brother licking his plate!? Lol!! Ok so go already! It's totally so...
Read moreFamily owned with owners on site. The basics (tacos, most enchiladas, fajitas, tamales) taste like good, traditional TxMx should and get 5 stars. It's not a fancy place, but it's comfortable and clean. We love that we can hear each other in conversation. We eat here or get our food to go often -- about once a week. Many of their specials are quite good; My fish taco was delicious. The shrimp in the shrimp taco may have been from the Gulf of Mx but didn't taste like it, and I don't like other shrimp; however, they said next time I can have another fish taco instead of shrimp. However, not everyone is as sensitive to the flavor of their shrimp as I am. I really didn't care for the spinach enchilada recipe. The traditional and strawberry margaritas were excellent. Our server was very nice, just new and...
Read moreIf you are gluten free they are very unfamiliar with it. Cook did come out and speak with us which was good. Husband and I ordered chicken and beef fajita combo....when food arrived it was all steak. When we brought this up to waitress she tried to tell us that we requested that because I am gluten free. Told her we that was not accurate. She looked confused and didnt seem about to do anything about it. I told her I could the steak but that we did order the combo. We are not soda drinkers and ordered water with lemon. Waitress said she would come back with water but did not. There were very few people in the restaraunt and we had to wait a long time for water and for plates on which to eat our fajitas. So, service very much lacking. That being said, the steak fajitas were GREAT! I would definitely...
