Papamigos is an Asian-Mexican Fusion Gastro Pub. It is located in the spot formerly occupied by Landlubbers. Paamigos started out as a Pompano Beach food truck and this is their brick and mortar restaurant.
The concept of papamigos is to combine sushi with tacos. They have Mexican street food and their specialty is sushi packed into a deep fried seaweed shell. What you would think of as sushi rolls are actually burritos. They are also known for their birria tacos, slow roasted marinated beef tacos.
I met my girlfriend after work for dinner. No problem finding a seat, it was pretty empty on a weekday. The decor looks the same as the last time I was here when it was Landlubbers. A bar is along one wall with booths along the walls and tables in the center. After checking out the drink menu we both wanted a prickly pear margarita but they only had on the rocks and we prefer frozen margaritas. After consulting with the bartender they decided they could do it but I really should have skipped the drink. First they brought us a passionfruit margarita by mistake. They left it on the house but even free I wouldn't drink it. One sip and I gagged. The prickly pear margaritas had no alcohol and no flavor. I drank mine because I was paying $12 for it but my friend only took a sip. No one asked if she liked it or why she didn't drink it. I don't know how you can run a bar without a Vitamix.
For our appetizer we shared a queso and chips which was good. Not the best I have ever had but it was fine. For dinner I had the fried shrimp tacos. Three come in an order and they come out to $5 each. They were tasty but too spicy for my taste. My throat was burning and my nose was running. I couldn't finish them. I am kind of wimpy when it comes to spice and to be fair the person I gave my last taco loved it. For dessert my friend and I shared an order of churros which came with a liquid chocolate sauce. I think it should have more fudgy but the churros were the best thing I ate. You can't go wrong with warm fried dough covered in sugar.
My experience here was okay. I felt really let down by the margaritas. A place that bills itself as crazy Mexican fusion should have top notch margaritas and they have a full bar to play with. I would have made a better one at home. I probably would have enjoyed my meal more if I had ordered the birria tacos and my friend did tell me to order them but I just wasn't in the mood for beef that night. It is an interesting concept combining Mexican and Asian food but for a $40 meal I was left...

As we were walking over to the bar I glanced over to the bartender that was walking towards the kitchen area where the server was and saw him making a face and gestures of annoyance, like why do I have customers here. This lowered my expectations for how the rest of the service would be. After we were seated the bartender came around the corner and I could see he was chewing like he just ate something. He rinsed his hands, brought us our menus, and began to serve us. We both ordered a margarita and were not impressed. It had the non-authentic taste due to using store bought sour mix and they were awfully sweet probably from a simple syrup mix they use. Each time the bartender would check on us, he would walk away, go back around the corner to chat with the server and/or eat chips. A few times he was even out from the corner where anyone in the restaurant could see him physically putting chips in his mouth and eating. I don't expect someone to be checking on us every minute, but I do expect that they stay behind the bar for a majority of the time and not be disappearing to go eat tortilla chips. We did get one appetizer from the happy hour menu which was actually pretty good, but at this point I was already dissatisfied with the initial actions by the bartender, him constantly openly eating, and the quality of the drinks I was ready to leave. As someone who has worked in the restaurant industry for many years, even in management, I know at times we don’t want customers, but it is not okay to publicly display those emotions. On top of that I know for sure that it is not ok to be eating food and serving guests, especially eating food in areas where you are actively working. I understand that as restaurant employees we like to snack or get hungry, but you should not be eating where customers...
Read moreThis is an update as of 9/22/23. Since writing my review on this business, the owner of the business seems to only want you to write good reviews. The purpose of a review of a business is ones dining experience at an establishment. Not what an owner wants you to write. I said what I said FACTS based on my dining experience, and I WILL NOT TAKE IT BACK. I stand by it. Looking at other dining experiences, not everyone has had a 3 - or 4-star experience at your restaurant. Calling a review Fraud is excessive and outlandish. Your restaurant food was NOT 3 or 4 star worthy. My review is not your only 1-star dining review. There are a plethora of them, it won't be the last.
Previous post: This establishment was recommended to me by an associate. I decided to drop in. Well, needless to say, I should have kept going. The day I came in, it was not busy at all, little to no patrons. I ordered my drinks, and they were super watered down tasted like juice rather than a cocktail more bit than bite. I sent them back with a request for an alternative, and it took 20 minutes before my waitress came . The waitress she was lackluster when it came to serving my table of one. She let parts pile up on my table. Passed by me several times before she even acknowledged me. Now for the food. The portions are good. The price and quality I'll pass. The dish I ordered was the street Taco with shredded meat. Well, the meat was dryyyyyyy and when large chuncks of meat in my Taco. Shredded means shredded, not dry, meat chunks. I bit into my Taco and nearly cooked. That means the person in the back cooking does not completely shred the meat. All in all, for what I paid, the quality of food was super disappointing. The service was very slow and lackluster, and rations of food were good. High prices for low quality and service. I'll pass. As for the decor, it's ok othing too...
