Decided to try Jeanie's Diner, after seeing a sponsored ad on facebook (and reading some favorable reviews online). The server was very friendly, efficient and courteous, and the atmosphere was inviting, reminiscent of the typical turn-of-the-century diner. The overall appearance appeared to be very clean and well-kempt.
I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger and Onion Rings. The burger was made from fresh (not frozen) hamburger (that's a GOOD thing), but, after reading that much of their food is "homemade", I expected that the mushrooms they used would have been fresh, instead of the type they use (which comes soaked in a water solution). Was also disappointed that they didn't use real Swiss cheese, but instead, used a processed cheese. Oh well... I can go a 1/2-mile down the street anytime and get me a Mushroom Swiss Burger (which comes with REAL Swiss Cheese and fresh, grilled mushrooms) and save myself more than $2.00, to boot!. They served me a hearty serving of Onion Rings, but they were just 'the normal variety' of frozen Onion Rings. Since they DO offer Freshly-battered Mozzarella Sticks, I expected their Onion Rings to be similarly prepared. I would have loved to try any of their (several) homemade soups, homemade pies or their (served-all-day) breakfast offerings, but may try those on a later date. The diner has a EXTENSIVE variety of menu offerings that would appeal to many (as well as daily specials). but I would simply advise, if you're persnickety about preparation and quality of ingredients, simply ask the server before ordering, as I'm sure they would be more than happy to reply...

Even some big cities have classic diners, and that's what's happening here. It's loud (talking, dishes clanking, general conversation, etc.), busy (people moving around, servers serving, diners coming and going), smells like coffee and pancakes, and tastes like America. My omelet was moderately fluffy (as I like it) with the right proportion of meat, veggies, and cheese. My hash browns were good, but could have had some additional seasoning (that's my taste, maybe not yours), and my sourdough toast was crispy and buttered like toast should be. I didn't even have to ask for apple butter - it was in the jelly caddie within reach. My coffee was hot, constantly filled, and strong. I made some new friends at the counter (which is what diners are for) and was out the door for about $16, including a 20+% tip.
If you're looking for a boutique breakfast with avocado toast and mimosas, this isn't it. But if you re craving biscuits & gravy, eggs cooked to order, cinnamon French toast, or homemade corned beef hash, you better hurry because they close at...
Read moreMy second job in life was steak and shake for many years. I was taught to always keep up with our no matter if it was my table or not. That how I know it's a great place with great employees because it was not just my sever looking over our table and yet it was all of them that is how a restaurant, place of severs, fast and etc should be like and act. Now the biggest thing ever that I love is that one of the cooks to which I believe he was the boss saw my son looking at their train that was moving around above and asked my son hey little man you wanna check out how the train work as long as it's cool with your day. Now I have work at a lot of places travel to a lot of places and I have only known one place that was cool with the young ones let alone ask the parents if it's cool to show them and that was when I worked at steak and shake. Because I was big into my card games and I treat one of my guess son the same way. I truly take my hat off to you ty everyone will return when I can evening if I am still living in Pontiac Il. I really hope business stay well for you in these tough times.
