I LOVE me a good steak and I am so happy to share that you can get a GREAT steak at GrillMarx in College Park. I've been to some of the best Steakhouses in the DMV, BLT, The Palm, Charlie Palmer's, Morton's and so on. Yes, I'm about to go there; the steaks at GrillMarx are at that same level but at a lower price point which is always a win win.
I had the Kona Steak and it was fabulous. Cooked and seasoned to perfection! But let's take a step back because there is sooo much more to this restaurant then just the steaks.
When we arrived GrillMarx we were greeted by Allison who was great. Her energy and vibe set the tone for the rest of the evening. It was refreshing to see a hostess that was not overwhelmed or distracted. One who actually had a smile on their face and made you feel welcome. Thanks Allison!
Our waitress Casey took the handoff from Allison and proceeded to take our dining experience to another level. Her attention to detail and ability to address our every need, coupled with another positive attitude and great smile added to our overall experience. She guided us thru the menu and was flawless with her execution of being our culinary guide for the evening. Thanks Casey!!!
So back to the food. Must haves on the menu, the mac & cheese and cesar salad were both on point. I already mentioned the steaks. Dessert was great too. Had the Apple Crisp which exceeded my expectations. The drinks where also top notch Their take on the Moscow Mule with Glenmorangie was exceptional and their Smoked Old Fashion is a game changer.
Lastly, Jackie the Manager is the glue that keeps things flowing. Thank you Casey, Allison, Jackie and Team for a very special dining experience. Rest assured we will be back in a few weeks. Hopefully, you won't get...
Read moreThe kitchen and staff truly go the distance to make sure the food is prepared well and served well.
Staff are attentive but not intrusive, food is prepared with a bit of flair and a high degree of neatness (not just tossed on the plate).
Quality of ingredients is key for any restaurant and GrillMarx doesn't disappoint in this regard, with every item being prepared a cut above the competition. Particularly the cuts of meat, there is no doubt the chef is going above and beyond to select, cut and prepare the finest food possible.
Preparation- I'm not an expert in the behind-the-scenes kitchen operations, but I can tell a great deal of effort has gone into every item on the menu. Some people would consider the measure of a good chef to be when they're under pressure and serving dozens of tables at a time. My consideration of a good chef is when I come in during the quiet lulls where the kitchen is 'resting" and order food, requiring the kitchen to go from stopped to operating again. When the food is this excellent, I know this means the chef and kitchen are running a high quality operation that carefully maintains their menu items to deliver perfection at any time.
I firmly believe that (at least for the GMX UMD location) they deserve to get their first Michelin star soon. The attention to detail and quality of food certainly make this a hidden gem and definitely "worth a detour" to visit.
PS: The parking garage offers a spectacular view of campus if you go all the way to the top. Remember to take your parking ticket in for GMX to stamp because every...
Read moreI want to start with saying that Addison was amazing. But the "Manager" Joey was absolutely horrible. I started out very excited to order a steak and a lobster tail. When my meal arrived the first thing I noticed was the lobster was so over cooked that it was sticking to the shell. They offered to cook another lobster as I continued in my meal I noticed there was a hair on my steak. I was offered to remake the meal and it would be comped. What I thought was the replacement meal came out and it was actually really good. I ate a good amount of the food and got a box for the rest. When the bill came out we were very surprised that the manager had “comped” the first meal and only offered 50% off the “second meal”. When we asked the manager over to explain why I would have to pay anything for a replacement meal for mistakes that were made in his kitchen he said “we don’t even normally offer that you ordered another meal so I was nice and gave you 50% off”. When we told him I never asked for another meal it was offered he said “oh so I can take the box then”. This manager Joey was very condescending and not understanding in the slightest bit. To have this manager take my leftovers and throw them in the trash just to comp the meal that I was owed was the biggest disrespect that I have ever seen in a restaurant. For that reason alone I will never be coming back to this restaurant. Joey has not one single customer service bone in his body and is very rude to take a patrons leftovers just to comp a meal that should have been comped in the...
