Oddly enough, my first impression of this establishment occurred before my first visit.
Last week, two young ladies who work at Walk-On's were patrons of mine at my establishment. Cute, friendly, and the kind of personalities you always hope to encounter when making plans to go out. That would've been enough for me to decide to check them out...then they tipped me like old-school industry used to take care of their own. That solidified my decision, and it was the right one.
I was greeted with friendly (I assume smiling under the masks) hostesses who offered information and asked questions in order to properly direct me according to my desire on a first visit. It was a brief and concise interaction that led me to sit at a spacious and vibrant bar, sports themed and very upbeat at lunchtime. Cool vibe for sure. Patieaux (sp?) was completely opened up and I really dug the atmosphere.
The two ladies working the bar (actually working the bar...will touch on that in a moment) were refreshingly there in the moment with their guests...interacting, having fun, and very informative with suggestions and favorites. I had a tall Dos Equis and the ribeye poboy with waffle fries, based on the bartenders' suggestion, and it did not disappoint. I took the easy route this time, but given the refreshingly different menu with a cajun flair, I'll be back soon to try many others in the future.
Yes, the food is awesone...but what struck me was the great attitudes, the attention to my experience overall by every employee I encountered, was top-notch. That's what will bring me back. Nary a phone was to be found in the hands of any one of them. I am an industry veteran of over 2 decades, and I am keen on the decline of service standards of late. Such was not the case at Walk-On's. Gratuity was not an expectation, it was well earned. Such a pleasure was my experience today that I felt the need to take a few valuable moments of my time to suggest that you should go check this place out. You'll...
Read moreMaybe due to Labor day? It does not feel good to make this post. Just close the place down physically before mentally. "Walked On", hostess had to go check for a clean booth but there were none so she sat us at the last clean table. There were only about a dozen people in there half of which were at the bar. 10 mins for a waiter to appear, another 15 mins to get a coke. He caught us as we were standing up to leave, so we sat back down. Our order came about 10 mins after that while we watched the hostess make 5 laps punching away on her little tablet. Then a busser appeared and gathered all the cups off all the tables. There was one other table being used besides ours and they were all dirty. He stacked the cups till they were taller than he was and still couldn't get them all. Left his bucket of disposed drinks there next to the other occupied table. I found the broom and dustpan in front of the Golden T... enough to make me skip playing a couple rounds (I do love that game.). When my sandwich arrived, it had the servers thumbprint in it. I wasn't about to wait another half hour in that filth while they made another. So I ate the fries. I let the wife know if there was a manager there today, they have the wrong manager. Turns out he was there. Let him know about my sandwich so he did remove it from the bill. I'll be satisfied enough with that. Probably a good place to spill a beer, but anything more than that I'd...
Read moreWent with my boss when she won free lunch for up to four as part of their pre-opening training. Con: New staff accidentally grabbed one of the entrees my table had ordered and gave to a different table so it was delayed where the fries that came with my meal were cooler than I would've liked. Pro: The taste of the food was amazing! Even cooled as the fries were, they were seasoned in a way that still made them enjoyable. For food I tried, I started with the Boudin balls, slightly spicy, but not overwhelmingly so (those that like spice, get the tabasco sauce or horseradish). For the entree, I had the stuffed burger, it was so juicy, putting a condiment on it should be considered a crime as it will hide the flavor. The waffle fries that came with I explained earlier in the post. We got to try two desserts: the Krispy Kreme bread pudding and the warm cookie sundae. The bread pudding was as sweet as a Krispy Kreme donut when they are warm, though a much denser consistency, and the cookie sundae was pretty much the same cookie sundae as other places offer, pretty good ice cream though. While I will not likely order these desserts, it is more of personal preference of desserts as they did taste quite good even to a person that doesn't care for them strongly. Pretty much, give this place a try if you are looking for a sports bar away from campus, good food, and/or a whole lot of...
