Flawed ice cream concept. I will say at the outset that the food itself tastes fine, but this “revolutionary” soft serve cone approach is a complete dud. I also want to say that this review is primarily about the concept of the franchise itself and not anything particularly negative about the Ooltewah location.
First, if you’re eating soft serve ice cream, you can’t really easily eat it with toppings sprinkled on top without a spoon so why be in a cone in the first place? And because it’s soft serve ice cream on a cone, you can’t put that much toppings on it, so it’s kind of silly when you have like four bits of a KitKat on your ice cream. Or like maybe a single Oreo cookie crumbled on top. Plus, I was also a little surprised that they didn’t have more options in the toppings and sauces. I do think you have the option of getting your ice cream in a cup which makes more sense, but negates the whole concept in the first place.
Second, the cone itself is practically inedible in terms of how you normally eat an ice cream cone. The cone is hard, thick and pastry-like. Almost like a cinnamon roll in its thickness. But instead of improving the experience, that just makes it very tough to consume. As opposed to typical ice cream cones which are thinner, lighter, and break off easily in your mouth when you bite into it.
They’ve also tried to dress up the cone by putting cinnamon on the outside or other flavorings on the inside. But this just makes the cone a lot messier to eat. That’s proven by the fact that the finished cone itself is placed into a plastic cup when served.
It seems like a large element of the franchise is to show these “revolutionary” cones being made fresh right in front of you in-store but it all just looks weird and not particularly enticing.
Everybody knows when you eat an ice cream cone, it’s not about the cone…It’s about the ice cream….so all of this effort going into the cone itself is mis-guided.
In terms of the establishment itself, the Ooltewah location is very small with limited seating options, which is problematic if they are even slightly busy. Also, you have to do the ordering yourself at a self-serve kiosk so there’s very limited interaction with any employees. The experience was kind of sterile and unfriendly.
If you like trying new things, by all means go for it if you’re interested. But unfortunately, I am...
Read moreThis was the WORST NIGHT to COME TO CRISPY CONES Ooletwah Tennessee (Chattanooga). They are serving ROCK HARD CONES that are suppose to be made fresh and when I questioned the three workers they said that there was no expiration on cones so there is NO HOLDING TIME so as long as they think there soft they can serve them. There were clear square dishes that held toppings and I asked them what the holding time was (expiration) and they said there is no expiration either. They got a big white tub of Nutella out to put on the inside of the cone and Nutella was everywhere on container and no expiration date as they do not use expiration dates (holding times). I told them that w me came here on OPENING DATE and told them that they were made FRESH TO ORDER AND THEY HAD TO SIT FOR SO LONG BEFORE THEY COULD SERVE THEM TO US. The three workers working on June 1st Sunday said NEVER COME TO AN OPENING DATE BECAUSE CORPORATE WILL BE THERE AND THEY WILL PRIORITIZE QUALITY OVER WAITING TIMES. I asked them about the Health Department and having regulations and or standards and they did not know anything. The hours to this location is 4pm-11pm and we came at 8pm when there were no customers. The owner walked behind the counter with her two kids then dipped out before I could talk to her since we were waiting on our food. I ended up spending 50 and tipped them 8.00 and you would expect that this location would STAND UP TO ITS POTENTIAL BUT if you want a cone that’s hard go to McDonalds because at least you know they...
Read moreMe and my friends visited crispy cones. This is my first visit recommended by my friend. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of freshly baked cones fills the air, creating an inviting atmosphere that sets high expectations – and they deliver. Crispy Cones successfully combines Czech-inspired tradition with American innovation.
“I want to give special recognition to employee (name not known may be college student)who served us today. What truly impressed me was the exceptional thoughtfulness of the service. I was waiting outside for my order, and instead of expecting me to come in and pick it up like most places do, the employee actually came outside to deliver my order directly to me. She was concerned that the ice cream might melt if she waited for me to come get it. This level of care and attention to ensuring the product quality is maintained shows how much the staff genuinely cares about the customer experience.
Their patience and kindness while taking our order made the entire experience even better. They took the time to explain the different options and helped us customize our cones perfectly. Excellent customer service like this really sets Crispy...
