I went on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and this place was busy. So that tells me one thing; people must really enjoy it. We got seated right away. I like how they had an assortment of salsas. They had a spicy one I really enjoyed. I ordered a chimichanga with pastor. It looked delicious. However, there was some kind of seasoning the pork had that I did not like. I couldn't quite figure it out. It might have been clove or maybe nutmeg? I'm not 100% sure. But I couldn't bring myself to eat it. I really did try! I felt so bad wasting food. The nice server took the dish back and they made me one with carnitas instead. It was so much better!! I appreciated her being so kind and understanding. They got the other dish out really quick even though they were busy. Definitely great service!

The last time I followed a comment about good Mexican food in the springs, I was highly disappointed. So I was a little nervous this time... but, I'm happy to say, that was not the case this time! They caught my attention with the salsa bar... chips and salsa being one of my favorite parts about eating at a Mexican restaurant. I tried the chilli rellenos, due to the review that was left about them and the fact that they are up there as one of my favorite go-to dishes. While they aren't what I expected for a relleno in Colorado... they were far better than most! And I was super impressed with the fact that their corn tortillas are handmade and thick! I got so full pretty quick! If I find myself in this neck of the woods again, I'll definitely consider this restaurant!

Food was good but the waitress decided to tip herself and not based on a percent but based on a dollar amount. When I asked when they started tipping themselves for only 3 people she acted like she didn't hear me and then when I asked again she said "oh the computer does it by its self". When I called to speak with a manager he said "I don't know let me talk to your server first and then I'll give you a call back" WITHOUT taking a call back number for me l definitely will not be going back being that the server took it upon herself to tip herself and that the manager I asked for didn't seem to think this was an issue. *the issue wasn’t tipping I always tip good the issue was she tipped herself with no reasoning behind it*

Thought it was a great place until they started including free hair knots in the salad and rice. They had a clean record with me. For over a year I went there and thought they were one of the best mexican places around town, but then it started happening. Ordered one of their specials (i believe it was the enchilada) and bam! There it was. A wonderful dark brown hair knot peeped through the lettuce. Didn't make a fuzz about it, cause lets be honest Ive never seen any of the cooks in CO Springs use a hairnet (even if they have hair pass the shoulders) and thought it was an accident, but hey! A famous president once said, and i quote, "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice... Welll... You better call me Samantha if you are gonna be F#-$&# me up like that". 2nd hair knot came with rice, and as they would say "smothered in the cochinita pibilll and cooked in a plantain leaf". Honestly, it never crossed my mind they would take the challenge, but here we are. El rey del taco 2 now includes hair knots in their house specials. Note: it was not just one hair, it was a hair knot. This means that someone is consistently brushing or touching their hair during meal preps and servings. I thought it was enough seeing the servers cough and touch utensils and plates after handling money and not clean their hands, but this was the last straw... I mean... hair, cause they don't even include straws with...

I took my 12-year-old son here for a belated birthday dinner. He got a steak quesadilla, and my other son got the queso burrito. I just got a pina colada and a chicken taco because I wasn't very hungry. I take a bite of my taco set it down on the plate and there's a long black hair on it. I didn't make a scene I didn't even try to get anybody's attention I just waited until someone came to the table but once we got our food our waitress was never to be seen again she was sitting in the booth behind us off to the side talking so I had to get someone else's attention after about 15 minutes. He asked if I wanted another one I said no thank you I've lost what little appetite I had he didn't apologize and the waitress never came back to the table. She finally returned and asked her for the check and if she removed my taco from my bill neither one of them apologized or said anything about it. When I went to pay my bill she basically called me a liar saying there's only boys in the kitchen so I don't know...I have pink curly hair so I highly doubt it was mine. I paid almost $70 for their food and drinks. From what I could see the other wait staff was very attentive taking care of their tables but we were not as fortunate I definitely do not...

The location is a bit off the beaten path. The parking lot has a lot of holes, and most of the stores around it were either closed or unoccupied when we visited.

The food was really good! Everything tasted delicious. Unfortunately, the burrito order we tried to place with two different types of meat didn’t work out. They only allowed one type of meat inside the burrito. That was a bit of a bummer, but it’s their policy, I guess.

The service was okay, but not great. The staff was friendly, but they weren’t very attentive to our needs. We had to wait a long time to get our check, and we even had to go find someone to give us a check because they were busy talking and rolling silverware. It would be great if they could check on their customers more often.

The wait time for everything was also quite long. It took a long time to get water, food, and check out. The wait time at the table trying to flag people down for things was also quite long. Overall, the service was mediocre.

This establishment is not one that I would...
