Oh my goodness. Having Sunday Brunch in the Lake Terrace Dining Room was really something else. It's been on the "bucket list" for a while, and I am so glad we finally made it! The food is a five-star experience, I just sincerely wish our service had been equally amazing (details in last paragraph), and that is why I haven't rated it as highly as I would have liked.
To start, the ambience is elegant and sophisticated. You must follow the dress code to dine, and it really does add to the experience. When you're seated, a waitress will take your beverage order- coffee, juice, and champagne beverages are included in the brunch. They also have other cocktails for an additional fee. My husband tried the Bloody Mary because we always do, and it was reasonably priced.
The food! You have to start with seafood and protein-y foods so you don't fill up! They had both easy and west coast oysters, crab legs, and shrimp on oceans by a beautiful ice sculpture of the Broadmoor. They have all the butters and sauces you could want with that. On the perimeter, there are table for salads, fruit (with the neatest honey set-up, straight from the comb!), charcuterie, and more. The center table is full of meat stations (the lamb was delicious), a salmon to-order station, crepes, waffles, eggs, bacon, sausages, dishes like beef bourguignon (which was exceptional), mushroom Mac and cheese (also delicious), and omelet station, and even more.
If you still have room, there are the most delectable desserts to choices from, in addition to breads, muffins, and croissants. Also an ice cream and bananas foster station. The pastries are even decked out with little chocolate pieces with the Broadmoor logo- how cute!
In short, the food is an amazing, 5-star experience. But we did find the service a little lacking. My husband and I each ordered a mimosa at the start, our waitress checked both IDs, but only brought mine. He was patient and decided to wait for her to return to order a Bloody Mary. It was more than halfway through our meal (and about 45 minutes) before she returned to check on us. With mandatory 20% gratuity and the reputation the Broadmoor carries, this was very...
Read moreMy family has enjoyed brunch at the Broadmoor for many special occasions over the years and have always returned because of our positive experiences. Recently we went to celebrate 2 milestone birthdays; my mom turned 90 and I turned 50...2 days apart. We dined for brunch on my birthday, Nov 19th and I was unpleasantly surprised by several things: Namely...we were seated on the upper tier, knowing we had a 90 yr old in our party...no accommodation was made for our reservation to be seated on the main level, so my mom had to navigate stairs. Second, at the time of reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything special and I told them....but there was nothing special about our visit. In the past we've received a card at our table, or a special dessert with Happy Birthday written on the plate...but not a thing...and we were visibly wearing Birthday Girl Pins and many patrons took note, but staff did nothing except say happy birthday. The food was good...but not excellent in terms of selection as in the past and the gluten free selections were not labeled as such...except for nuts...really? I was surprised by lack of gluten-free options. I had to ask about sauces and meats and veggies and rather than take servers away ftom their station, I just limited myself to what I thought was safe. I was asked about dietary restrictions at time of reservation, so you'd expect a stellar resort would have either had a list of foods ok to eat or had someone talk to me about it. Artificial crab in the sushi rolls....wouldn't have expected that either...but glad I asked. My husband and I have been patrons of the Broadmoor for 25+ years at all of the restaurants and I was disappointed in how much has changed. We were engaged at the Broadmoor, celebrated my parent's 50th anniversary there, my mom's 85th birthday, nearly every birthday of mine for 20+ years and many other occasions and parties. We were looking so forward to this milestone celebratory brunch but it just didn't quite meet the Broadmoor seal of excellence. I will say that the gentleman taking care of us at our table was very attentive, friendly and frequently checked in on us. I am sorry I do not...
Read moreBuffet was totally lackluster and quite frankly, gross. I was waiting for any of the manager looking folks who stopped to talk to a number of tables to talk to our table but they kept passing us by. The food had little to no flavor — meat, vegetables, eggs, sides, it didn’t matter what I tried, nothing had any notable flavor. I got an omelet and it had no salt, which I found totally bizarre. Even the buttermilk biscuit had no flavor, maybe a tinge of sweetness that I could barely decipher but that was about it. I guess you could compare the food to an MRE, although even an MRE would have more flavor than any of the dishes here. Most, if not all, of the food was cold or a little less than room temperature. The iced tea tasted like water. The only thing I enjoyed was the cappuccino. My husband could only have one plate before he gave up wasting caloric intake on the horrible food here. Our waitress was fine, however. What really was the final straw was the valet attendant telling us there are no spots left, however, in the parking garage, the valet spots were 80% empty at 9:00 AM on September 28. I am heavily pregnant and the only reason we decided to come to breakfast here was the appeal of the valet that we couldn’t even utilize. Overall, this was an immensely disappointing experience and the worst breakfast I have had at a luxury resort. Even the chairs were terrible, why would you put patio chairs inside a ‘fine’ dining establishment? They were extremely uncomfortable with their iron backings. I can’t even believe the cost because it was NOT worth it. I think the chefs need to be retrained. This is my final time giving The Broadmoor a chance. The food is completely disgusting no matter where my husband and I dine at. I feel terrible for the people who have no choice but to patronize any of these...
