We came here after googling pho places in Pueblo. This was one of the higher rated places, so we decided to give it a try.
The restaurant had a nice amount of patrons, as we arrived around noonish. It seemed decently clean. We made our order to go, in which service was ok. They seemed a lot more attentive to their dine-in customers than my order. That's fine but when the server said she'd check on my order, I thought she'd do it right after she notified me...but she didn't. She actually made her rounds with dine-in customers before checking my order. Not so cool with that.
We ordered the rare steak pho and a set of spring rolls. The pho broth was nicely balanced; aromatic, well seasoned and tasty...BUT...oily. The bean sprouts seemed pretty fresh compared to the basil and cilantro sprigs. The spring rolls were smallish and not much of a standout. It was just ok. However, the peanut sauce was super watery which was a turn off for me. I'm beginning to think it's the standard spring roll for being stateside as the couple of places I've gone to has had the similar results, only the other places had better sauce.
All in all, if I'm in the area I'd get the pho but definitely not the spring rolls, unless they make some changes to the size and sauce: bigger rolls and better dipping sauce which is more tasty and less watery! Or, they could lower their prices on the rolls. I found the prices were pretty comparable to the other Pho places...
Read moreWe’re both out of town and wanted pho. We found two pho restaurants around here and drove to one of them because it was close to our destination but it was shut down. So we ended up at Pho 50.
We ordered egg rolls (2-$4.75) and deep fried tofu ($4.75). As well as a regular size bowl pho ($10.95) of rare steak with added meatballs to share.
The egg rolls were cut in half so it came out in four small pieces. It was tasty with lots of carrots compared to pork. It’s paired with dipping fish sauce. I find it odd that there was no lettuce.
The deep fried tofu came out with 8 triangle pieces with sweet chili dipping sauce. The tofu was crispy on the edges and soft inside. Be careful to let it cool because you can burn your tongue.
Last, pho came out and I had no expectations because I can’t compare to California. Surprisingly, the broth was really flavorful. Usually I would walk out of a place smelling like pho from head to toe and that’s how I can tell the broth bone has been seeping for hours. But I didn’t smell like that here.
I like that they offer three sizes for pho, small, regular, large. Overall, the place was clean. They didn’t come to bother to check on us the entire time...
Read moreGot two stars only because the broth was good. Not great, but good enough. Got 1/2 dried out lime & TWO thin slices of jalapeno. A few sprigs of cilantro. No basil. When asking for basil was it was like Basil? What's that? Why would we have that. Nevermind at least 3 other dishes on the menu FEATURES basil. But they've never heard of it. Got a huge side of soggy gross beansprouts. No thanks. Asked for fish sauce. She said, it's right here. Nope. What she was referring to was the side sauce that already came with the horrible Vietnamese spring roll cut into 4 pieces for 6$ totally overfried with almost no stuffing. It had some fish sauce in it, but come on. You're trying not to bring me what I'm asking for you get what you get it seems. After small back and forth she brought me what I asked for but no basil. Watered down peanut sauce for the spring rolls. Come on, water it down? Bun mi was all bread. Good flavor but I basically paid 6$ for a baguette with some sauce. We spent 50$. Could have been great but seemed like cutting corners and watering down ingredients. A good quality control measure would have brought this review from...
