Monaco Steakhouse & Sports Bar — Restaurant in Columbia Falls

Man, I hate to say it, but it’s hard to see this place keeping its doors open. I gave it three stars because I don’t have the heart to give it less.

I brought my wife here for our 18th anniversary and they dropped the ball at almost every chance they got. Before we even got there I got a text saying my reservation was cancelled with no explanation. Not thinking much of it, I just rescheduled another one which worked. Now, Sundays on the restaurant biz are not typically busy but it was still strange we were the only ones in the dining room at 7pm.

Our waiter Perry was awesome and the best part of our night. Very nice guy. He had to clean up a lot of mistakes though by management. I originally ordered the 22oz bone in ribeye for $57. I was in the mood for a world class steak. Well, they didn’t have any.

So, I ordered the smaller ribeye and added the lobster tail for $20. Perry came back again to tell me they don’t have any lobster tails either.

Feeling bad for Perry at this point. I’ve been in this position as a waiter and it sucks.

Fast forward to getting our food, my ribeye that I ordered medium came out rare. Sent it back, got it cooked to proper temp but my potatoes are now missing.

It was just a comedy of errors. I think their biggest mistake is what they are charging for steaks. They are charging fine dining prices for sports bar atmosphere and food. The steak was good but not $39 good. I worked in restaurants and fine dining my whole young adult life. This place needs some work. If you’re going to charge what they charge, you absolutely need to have your s* together on all fronts and they just don’t.

I sincerely hope they take a lot of the negative reviews and make some changes. I never like to see businesses go under.

However, I also feel an obligation to inform folks who are spending quite a pretty penny expecting a world class steak and experience.

I don't even know where to start. It looked like an upscale steak place & was a very cool atmosphere with very classy decor. It was clean and all the servers looked clean & nicely dressed. We were seated quickly, on the patio, with menus by a very friendly hostess. We sat for 25 minutes before anyone brought water, and then sat for another 20ish minutes before anyone came by to ask if we were ok.... I said we'd really like to order. A man, the manager maybe, came and took our order. Another 45 minutes later, my husband's plate comes out & the waitress asked if there was anything else. I said yeah MY FOOD. It was visibly upset at this point (referring to my visit as a trainwreck) & she says let me go see what's going on, taking my husband's plate with her. I don't even know how much later, the "manager" came out with her & all of our food. At that pointvwe were asked if we wanted anything besides water to drink 🤦‍♀️. My husband got the Philly cheese steak ($17) with fries (cold at this point) I ordered the special-bacon wrapped filet with a baked potato, seasonal veggies (zucchini) & a side salad ($25). The steak was perfectly cooked, the veggies had NO SEASONING, the potato had a tiny bit of butter & 5 pieces of fresh chives 🤣, the salad was wilted & even bordering warm. After we finishing what we wanted, as the waitress was pre-bussing our table, she offered a complimentary piece of cheesecake (this & the atmosphere are the only reason for the 2 stars). The food could be fixed...good fundamentals, but the service department needs a complete make over. Worst experience ever!! We had stopped here to get some takeout for the drive home and from the start the waiters had given us attitude when we asked if we can order for takeout. We sat down, ordered and the girl was impatient and rude the whole time. She cut us off and wouldn’t look at us and would try to argue and make rude remarks while we ordered. After ordering, we waited for our food for a bit and no one said anything to us at all which was fine but then she brought out a part of our order to dine in, simple mistake, when we told her we asked for it to go then she made a point to say that we never ordered it to go and tried to argue with me, when I had said we asked for it to go she shot me the ugliest look and then we waited more. Another guy brought us our food and then we had to wait for her to bring our bill, she came and threw our receipt at us without a word and walked away. We are from Canada so we had an issue using the QR code to pay and she never came back to help us with it, the guy came around and helped us but not without another dirty look because apparently doing your job is a major inconvenience. When we got our food to go we noticed that they forgot the sauce for our steak, there were no napkins, and no cutlery. Maybe it’s just where I’m from, but to earn your tips you should be at the very lease polite in some manner and again it could just be prejudice because I am native but that was a HORRIBLE experience.
