I have ate here so many times it’s hard to keep track of the number but we’ll over 15 times. This used to be my favourite place in the city. Unfortunately the last two times I ordered I was not pleased with the food and today the service I received from an employee was horrible. About a month ago I ordered a few tacos and they were very dry and didn’t taste fresh but I ate them anyhow and boy did I regret eating them. 30-45 mins later I had been to the restroom 3 times and my stomach was in knots. It was not food poisoning but definitely something that upset my stomach to the point I had diarrhoea. So I took what I considered a long 1 month break and today I decided to try again and my 1st and only bite into my taco is what led me to toss the rest of my tacos. The shell was hard and difficult to bite from taco. The meat was very dry I almost choked on the dry taco. My food today was not edible and that’s not a joke. And they also forgot a few toppings that I ordered to come on the side. I paid for the toppings too! My family spent 62$ On food and we were only able to eat the Tiramisu and cheesecake ( both cakes were great). So I called El Taco Loco to see if they could possibly remake the order and a man (who would not give me his name) told me he doesn’t know what to tell me, and that he apparently made the food just like he always does. There was no way my tacos were that hard and they didn’t know. Even after asking if I could bring tacos back to show them the condition, the employee continued to tell me there was nothing wrong with my food. So I guess I paid 62$ to only eat the cakes. I will NEVER EVER order there again, and I will be sure to never recommend anyone else not only because of the food but mainly from the horrible service I received from them after being a loyal customer...
Read moreThe last time I was in Mexico, I was 6 or 7 years old. I don't really remember it as much as I remember the concept of it. So, that said, I have no idea what's authentic.
But I do know good flavors, unique flavors, friendly service, fast service, and honest-to-goodness heart put into a meal. This feels real to me because those folk cooking behind the counter? They move swiftly and surely; the smells that inundate this restaurant are amazing! The flavor of the mild and oh-so-tender lengua (beef tongue) is simply perfect.
It's not all muddled with all sorts of stuff a taco or burrito doesn't need. It's simple food made perfectly and served by friendly folk who remember your face and never fail to smile.
I've tried nearly everything on their little menu and I still find it hard to pick a favorite.
Trust me: this is really good food. The "hot" salsa isn't Minnesota spicy but it also isn't so spicy that it destroys the flavors. Get it on the side, if you're wary. But please: do try it. Try everything! Start with the tacos, get a burrito some night (they're rather big), and then try a pressed sandwich the next. The price is right and the experience is something you'll...
Read moreI've been going to El Taco Loco since it was a taco truck in the same spot here in Columbia Heights for 10 years basically. In that time, I have tried many, many other Mexican restaurants and taco trucks. Nearly all of them are delicious but nothing I have ever had comes close to the feeling and taste of El Taco Loco.
The tacos are so on point, perfect amount of meat, cilantro and onion. Three different types of salsa (mild, hot and habanero) for anyone to choose.
The nachos are super cheap and give you so much food for the price that it's ridiculous.
Tortas are amazing, burritos are much better than Chipotle's for example and are way bigger and fill you up more. They have a wide variety of drinks. They do delivery. You can eat inside the restaurant or outside.
This place is even better than chain Mexican restaurants like La Casita. The food is better here and the staff is...
