Gold Star — Restaurant in Columbia Township

Absolutely unpleasant experience at this location, to the point I highly doubt I’ll ever order from any of their locations again when I’m back home. I went late in the evening on Father’s Day, ironically, per the request of my father. Ordered the food, paid, and went “home”. I didn’t think I needed to check the receipt to make sure my order was accurate; it’s just a friggin’ coney dude.

Sadly when I got home, found the vegetarian coneys I ordered actually contained meat sauce and pork hot dogs. When I called, the line was busy, so my mother called a nearby location and they advised just to stop in with the receipt and food and they’ll issue a refund; I did exactly that. To my dismay, that wasn’t the case. The staff/managers told me because I didn’t come back the same day they could only exchange it. At this point, we no longer wanted the order and simply requested a refund, and were continually told because I didn’t come back up the same day I was in the wrong. Like, you cannot possibly be serious? Then, they make up policies on the spot with whatever they feel like telling you. I asked where their refund and quality assurance policies were and was told they don’t have to post them.

Again, I won’t be back so it is what it is. I highly recommend if you order from this location, check your food in the driveway line because this isn’t the first time my order was wrong, simply the first time I brought it back because it was inedible.

I wish that I could give this location a true "Gold Star" rating, but I simply cannot. Their drive-thru service is the best thing they offer, and even that is subpar. I have visited this location on several occasions and for the longest time, they would never have the five-pepper blend that went on top of your "firehouse" items. They finally have it back, but it doesn't do them any good if they don't use it!

I recently ate inside and ordered a hot met, a firehouse coney (with everything,) and a regular 3-way firehouse. The waitress repeated it back to me and then I ended up getting an order that was no where near correct or even properly edible for that matter. Nothing was hot/fresh tasting to start. My hot met that wasn't dressed properly (no special cheese/spice blend, no sriracha sauce,) and my firehouse 3-way was exactly that of a regular 3-way other than one super small spot of sriracha like they thought they messed up but weren't going to say anything. My waitress asked if I was doing okay and I told her "I guess so," but she never prompted it further. Even at check-out she asked again, and I responded with "not good" but it never went anywhere.

I will more than likely never be back to this location. Despite its relevance to being in that area typically daily, they are not reliable on the quality or service that they deliver. I don't know what has happened with this location over the past couple of years, but it isn't a proper food establishment anymore and I would rather support a locally owned location near my house than this establishment that doesn't seem to...

This is a wonderful restaurant. I stop there not long ago, I came back to move help move my son and daughter in law to Texas. I mentioned to the staff that it was Gold Star Chili that had unknowingly started a 20 yr old tradition in my household. I had had eaten there for the first time while living in Cincinnati for a short time and loved it so much that when we moved away, I started making the 3 and 5 way chili spaghettis for my kids. Didn’t realize that until I had taken them there to eat that my kids thought that I had invented it lol. The wonderful gentleman in charge was so amazing that when we had left, he said to stop back before we leave for Texas... which was my plan anyway because I love it. The night before we got on the road I had sent my son back with a list of menu items just for me to eat and reheat while I finished their packing into the night. That amazing man remembered my son and made a care package for me with a few of their Goldstar Chili seasoning packs, 2 cans of their unique chili and Goldstar crackers and condiments. I won’t lie, I teared up at the kindness and personable effort a stranger showed me just for a story I shared with him while waiting for my food. I have saved that specific location in my phone and when we pass through Cincinnati again to visit family in northern Ohio for holidays, I will make sure that my route includes that store.
