We completed 3.3 miles on the Lake Kittamaqundi to Wilde Lake Trail in Columbia…
This was a pretty simple ride. Great views of the lake with many places to sit and “lake watch”. We saw a sign that displayed a calendar of free outdoor events at Lakefront Plaza. We’ll bike here again one day and stay late for an outdoor movie 🎥 🍿. This trail connects to other trails in Columbia for those who want an extended but chill ride. It’s also located right near Columbia mall so there’s plenty of places to have dinner if you’re interested. The Lakefront plaza had a nice playground for the kids as well called Bailey Park. As we went further along the trail, we found a few exercise/stretch stations. Overall the trail was short and sweet but there was a gentle climb going towards Wilde lake. It was steep enough to give me a tiny challenge but not steep enough for me to need a break. Most of it was downhill on the way back. Unfortunately, we were not able to fully complete the trail due to construction. Instead we improvised near the end of the trail and rode around the opposite site of Wilde lake before turning around to head back to the start. There was also a short but very steep hill near the construction site by Wilde Lake the lake trail also had a stent of wood chip surface but the rest of the trail was paved or planked bridges. Along the trail, we saw some rabbits 🐰, frogs 🐸, turtles 🐢, and fish 🐟. We started video tapping a crane (I think it was a crane)that we thought was about catch some food. Turns out, the crane was just enjoying the sunset like us lol.
Overall, this is a good trail to get about 3.5 miles in roundtrip or extend the ride for a longer trip through the trails of patuxent. Please don’t go fast on this trail. There are many walkers (especially elderly walkers) so take your time and enjoy the mix of nature, neighbors,...

Walking around Lake Kittamaqundi in winter time is the most peaceful walk, less people, and geese are wonderful experiences. Stop at the water fountain that lighted during night time, or taking break at benches that provided along the lake. Don’t forget to stroll along the boardwalk that closer to water. Watch for trails directions so you don’t get lost to housing neighborhoods on every turns. Also a nice dome shape playground for kids to play and a long slide adding more fun!
📍 Columbia, MD 21044 🚾 no porta potty around the trails, stop by Whole Foods during store hours. ♿️ accessible for strollers and wheelchairs 🅿️ parking lot around the lake

Read moreThere are 2 paths you can take around the kittamaqundi lake. The short one is the Lake Loop about 1.5 miles. The long way is to take the Lake Trail which will take you all around the neighborhood and back to the loop, about 2.5 miles for the entire trail. Beautiful and peaceful scenery all around, very nice. The lake water can get very “stuffy” hence the algae cleaning boats are always working to cleanse it. Many amenities built around this lake, including wholefoods, hotels, office buildings, townhouses, apartments, and the Columbia mall across, which makes the location of this lake very convenient to walk for the locals. Highly recommended...
