Took a ride to Columbia to visit Gold's Deli. Saw a few posts about this spot, pictures were “WOW”, and when I hear the word “grinder” being tossed about I’m in. Arrived late in the afternoon and met George Kougias who is the owner and the place has been open about 10 weeks. The place is small…pony up to the counter which seats about 6 and they have some outdoor seating. Enjoyed talking with George, he knows food having been in the food industry for many years. Seems the Reuben and Gold’s Special (pastrami) are popular…it was sold out. I had already decided on the Italian Hero and watched George artfully stuff that roll was with so much meat and veggies was magical. I asked for the oil/vinegar on the side so if I only did half it wouldn’t be soggy. The meat…delicious and you could taste all of the different flavors while the veggies used were fresh, plentiful, and complimented the sandwich. The roll is soft and good, but not quite a traditional Grinder Roll. It’s going to be a tough one to solve, but the roll they use is solid and holds together well. What makes this sandwich different??? For me a couple of things like purple onions, oil/vinegar that also includes seasoning, and a pepper relish that puts this sandwich over the top. I only ate half and took the other half home for a late night snack. George shared with me his version of potato salad…mustard base which normally is not my favorite. When I tasted it I was blown away, lightly sweet, creamy, great flavors, and you barely tasted the mustard. I must admit, this is the best mustard based potato salad I’ve ever enjoyed. While they have a brand of chips called Dirty Deli Style and they are awesome…grab the potato salad as a side and you will be sooooo happy. Great food, excellent service, and a simple but solid menu…well worth a drive to Columbia or a visit if you’re passing through.

When I heard about this place, I was skeptical. A New England deli? In the great state of Tennessee? And with delicious food? Couldn't be. As I approached my excitement grew. In an unassuming building shared with Bag of Joy and across the street from what I can only assume was a failed museum of some sort, I saw in the window the beacon of hope - a neon sign in signature gold, "GOLD'S DELI". I took a seat at the four-sear counter in the relatively small spot and rubbed elbows with fellow diners. Plenty of room, but cozy at the same time. Some nice classic rock was playing over the radio, with hits like "Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel and "Hip to be Square" by Huey Lewis and the news. After fixing up some incredible looking subs, the owner turned, smiled and asked for my order. I wasn't sure. Unfortunately the meatball wasn't for sale, so I asked for a famous Reuben. Hailing from New England and often travelling to the New York area for the best of the best, I think myself a good judge of Reubenesque quality. Let's break it down. It comes on untoasted rye. I would have preferred it toasted but what can you do. The bread itself is scrumptious. I asked where from, and the owner smiled knowingly, and got back to work. There was, after all, a line out the door. The säuerkraüt was of above average pedigree. Not the top of the line, but much much better than youd expect for a sandwich costing a paltry fourteen dollars plus a little for uncle sam. The Swiss used was aged an appropriate 4 years and of the perfect texture and consistency for the kind of sandwich used - and proportioned perfectly. The Russian dressing comes from a Ken's steak house, and provided a perfect balance. The thinly sliced corned beef was incredible and piled high. I shed a single tear as I bit into it and was rushed with that perfect, tender flavor of warm, scrumptious meat. The sandwich came with some pickles, which were not bad. Overall, the sandwich gets a 9.132 out of 10 - just barely behind my all time favorite Reins Deli off the interstate in the slightly less great state of Connecticut. Finally, the owner - what a great, big personality behind the counter. He was like if my high school teacher I loved retired and I went to visit him. Great jokes, great attitude, and again, just a big, big personality. As a world traveller, I thought I'd be kind and translate this review to a few other languages. Have a nice day. Peace unto you, and enjoy the coolest cold sub shop in the area.

I recently visited Golds Deli, a delightful new addition to our local culinary scene specializing in sandwiches, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The Reuben sandwich I ordered was nothing short of fantastic. From the moment I sat down at my table, I could tell that Golds Deli takes pride in their craft. The sandwich was perfectly layered with tender, flavorful corned beef, tangy sauerkraut, melted Swiss cheese, and just the right amount of Thousand Island dressing, all sandwiched between slices of rye bread. What truly impressed me was the authenticity of the Reuben. It felt like a genuine tribute to the classic deli sandwich, with each ingredient shining through in every bite. The flavors were balanced impeccably, and the portion size was generous without being overwhelming. Beyond the food, the ambiance of Golds Deli was inviting and cozy, making it a great spot for a casual meal or a quick bite. The service was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend Golds Deli to anyone looking for a top-notch sandwich experience. Whether you're a fan of Reubens like me or eager to explore their other offerings, Golds Deli is sure to leave a lasting impression.

I'm writing this review here because I'm sure the one I wrote on Facebook will be deleted. I waited all week to get a pastrami sandwich and was so looking forward to it. All I wanted to add was swiss cheese and onions. It says hot or cold on menu. When I asked for cold I was told there wasn't any cold but I could wait for cold which was going to take more than a few minutes. When I got to my car and opened the sandwich there were no onions, no swiss cheese and no pickles.I went back in . I was offered a remake but this was as he put cheese and onions in a deli container on the counter in front of me. I accepted that and let it go because I didn't have time to wait. I still didn't get any pickles so I asked the woman that was working the counter for some. When you pay $19 for a sandwich before taxes and it's a simple enough sandwich you would expect it would be done right. Especially when you're just starting out you should really try to get things right. I wasn't going to post the review here but the review I made hours ago on facebook you haven't responded to. I happen to know that you can't delete reviews on Google good or bad. Only the person reviewing can delete. A "sorry" would have been nice. Since you didn't respond to my review on Facebook that I posted hours ago I'm now going to nitpick about some details. The diced onions are fine on a sub but not on a square. They constantly fell off. Thin sliced onions would be better.I wanted it cold because I knew it would get soggy otherwise, which it did before I even ate half. The pastrami should be sliced thinner. It says on the menu "over a pound of pastrami". It wasn't even a pound. I threw over half the sandwich in trash. The only positives are your place is very clean and the woman working there has an infectious smile. I wish you luck but you really need to pay attention to the small details. You only have 8 sandwiches to get right. UPDATE: 5/19/25 replying to owner's comments. First I never called you! All I've done is leave an honest review here and on Facebook. Just because you don't like doesn't make it harassment. You must be thinking of someone else who gave an honest review that you didn't like. As far as your staff goes, did you not notice that I said "the woman behind the counter had an infectious smile" ? Guess you were too wrapped up in your response to pay attention? How is that negative? That is the ONLY comment I made here or on Facebook about any of your staff. I still stand by my original review. It's spot on regarding the sandwich I ordered. I usually give a second chance after a negative response but I haven't because you have taken no responsibility for my sandwich that you made...

After reading reviews on this deli, and being interested in their premise I drove from Nashville to Columbia on Saturday, March 8th 2025. It was not worth it at all. I ordered a turkey sandwich with gouda cheese and mayo. Very simple, only three ingredients, and the proportions were huge. Unfortunately this resulted in a hugely inadequate sandwich. The cheese still had the paper on it, which is not appetizing to eat at all. The bread was also very dry, and started crumbling almost immediately making it difficult to hold. The turkey was honey roasted, this isn't really bad, just not what I was expecting. The menu just says turkey on it, and as it does not specify that it is honey roasted I expected it to be plain turkey. I did not appreciate finding this out through eating it, and would prefer that the menu mention this. I would not have gotten the turkey if I had known. Overall I got a better sandwich, with better bread, and better turkey from Jersey Mikes. A chain restaurant. I think it would have been cheaper too.

The service was fine. Nothing to write home about. Since the inside is so tiny there is not really any place to stand while waiting for your sandwich to be made so I went outside to allow the line of customers waiting to order to have more space. But they don't have an intercom or system in place for you to find out that your order is ready, if you do decide to go outside. I had to go in and ask, not a big deal but I wasn't the only one who decided it was easier to go outside then loiter in the tiny storefront. I am also glad that it was not raining on Saturday. There are only I think five barstools in the restaurant, and if there happens to be more indoor seating it was not made obvious. This leaves large groups either taking up the entire space inside or forced to eat outside. This is not a problem on a day like Saturday where the weather was nice and I wanted to eat outside. But if I had driven from Nashville to this deli and it was raining and there was not inside seating and I was forced to eat my hugely inadequate sandwich in my car, honestly this review would be worse.

Overall, this deli is not worth the drive to Columbia. If you are already planning on spending the day in Columbia and were considering checking this place out I am certain there are better restaurants. With a single 12 canned soda and tip my total came to over 20$ and I could have eaten at restaurant where I would have been able to sit down for that price. I would not, and I will not be recommending this place to family, friends,...

We drove down here from Clarksville one day and well before their closing time they were completely sold out.. that was a huge bummer but the owner George was extremely nice about it, he even recommended a spot down the street for us to try so that our trip wasn't entirely a waste.. the place he recommended was pretty good but man we wanted to try Golds! So a couple weeks later we made the trip back out, made sure to be there a bit earlier, oh. My. Gosh. We got the Italian hero, the Reuben and the pastrami (forget if it had a special name but it was a pound of pastrami on rye). My wife and I are hardcore foodies, we don't have much good food in Clarksville, it all seems to be more south towards/in and around the Nashville area.. I have to tell everyone, this was hands down, bar none, the absolute best sandwiches my wife and I have ever had in the entire state of Tennessee. The owner was so nice to us and because we made two 1.5 hour trips down just to try it all, he also gave us one of each of their pasta/potatoe salads.. OMG they are on the same unbelievable level of amazing.. I hear there are plans to expand up in Franklin which may make it a small bit closer to us.. we are actually praying that some how some way this place scores an expansion up in the ever growing Clarksville area.. I absolutely can't put into words how amazing these sandwiches are.. George, you keep this good service up, you're a champion among men.. PLEASE expand to Clarksville.. my wife is a chef and will gladly spearhead the northern most location for you! We NEED something like this up here! Id be here every day for every meal if it was closer! I'll even make you a mobile app if you expand to Clarksville, you'd just have to give me a "Gold" card that gets me any sandwich at any time on demand lol .. thank you again for pouring your love into this place.. keeping it so simple, yet so utterly delicious... 10/10 will gladly drive almost 2 hours any chance we get to have more of this fresh flavor on our...
