We ordered Hunan Manor this evening, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and Egg Rolls. It arrived earlier then anticipated which was great!
We opened it up and laid out the feast, cutting some up for our kid as well.
I am used to the normal Sweet and Sour chicken style of fried chicken (or as I like to call them Fancy Chicken Nuggets) instead we see a chicken breast fried in a similar manner and cut into strips. Interesting and could be good.
I am excited by my culinary adventure!
Excited we tried it, the chicken was exceptionally tough and tasted... like shoes would be too kind, perhaps boots?
At any rate after several bites I decided that I would try and gut check this one, damn it I paid for this super chicken flesh to be fried and delivered! For this chicken to be so tough I must assume it had super powers akin to Aqua Man, Wonder Women, or dare I say... Super Chicken.
I decided to soak it in the sauce rather then a bit of a light drizzle of the taste bud loving rain. I poured the entire container of sauce onto hoping a tsunami of sweet and sour would improve my situation and loosen the super chickens grip upon my meal.
At first I thought my efforts had defeated the boot laden meal so I gave it another go. I once again steeled my self for battle and dove in...now I had odd mixture of a very odd tasting orangy/red sauce that I assume was meant to be sweet and sour sauce, perhaps in another life it was.
Could this be the blood of the super chicken? Could it give me the super powers of strength this creature once possessed?
It resembled something a bit more tomato then I had remembered however and my dreams of super powers vanished before my eyes.
However it did make the chicken less tough, it had conquered the super chicken and simply made it rubbery, although I love a good work out chewing this compilation of ... less unique tastes was too much.
I rose the white flag of defeat and decided, hell lets just go with sweet and sour rice!
Again however the orangy/red fluid given to me was not what I was expecting and the flavor absent the boot overtones left it even more like tomato, the rice however was more or less edible alone, so I had steamed rice at least.
After throwing away the chicken and half the rice my wife gave up and declared she was going to Taco Bell for real food and did I want any.
It is a bit funny that Hunan Manor is right next door to taco bell to taunt us on our desperate search for sustenance, so close with its lies and trickery of 4 star reviews!.
My suggestion? Just skip Hunan Manor and save some time, go to Taco Bell its probably a...
Read moreThis is usually my all time favorite Chinese restaurant. My family and I have been coming here for YEARS!! We love Hunan, and know the owners and servers...Always ask for Thomas or his wife, they will treat you to the best customer service all day! 5 Stars! We do highly recommend this place. ....BUT.... Fast forward to today. 3 Stars :-( I hadn't been to Hunan for several months we walked in for lunch (until 3pm) and sat at Peter's table. We ordered our meals (lunch combo fried rice, no beef, Gen chicken, egg drop soup, egg rolls), then I ordered a lunch combo fried rice (chicken/veg only) for mom to go at 2:48pm. When I got the receipt, I see that I've been charged full dinner price for the fried rice. ..that dish it seems wasn't entered until after 3pm...hmmmm and I even mentioned the time when I ordered 2:48pm...no it wasn't busy, and def no accommodation. IMO I feel that it was done real slick. ... so of course I'm not going to tip 20% on the inflated amount. I tipped 11% of the inflated amount even though I thought Peter was undeserving. The fried rIce was fresh. The General chickenwas a tad overcooked? Or maybe Friday in refried before tossed in the sauce? The egg rolls re'fried. ..from earlier, and the egg drop soup was so thick it fell like jam off the spoon. When it was time to leave we said thank you, with a smile and goodbye to Peter and the staff but was greeted with cold silence by him. I guess he did not like the $3.06 tip on a $29 (inflated) check. At leastwe tipped and were not difficult/bothersom at all! How rude!! Needs a bit of re-training. Hunan what has happened to you?? I'm hoping this was just an off day as I will still be back...to sit at Thomas's section and receive the great service and tasty food that my family has come to know and love. Customer service- 2 ☆ down from 3 for rude Behavior when we were walking out.
Food- 3☆ fried rice tasty! Other items not so much...
Read moreThis place has gone to hell. Went for a family dinner party last night. The place smelled like dirty fish tanks that haven't been cleaned in decades. And we thought it'd just be the front, but they took us to the back of the restaurant and it was even worse.
The servers were the worst. We ordered four dishes [first] because our kid and grandma were starving, and we were waiting for couple more people to come, then order more later. But as soon as we ordered, the waitress looks at us and says "that's all"?!
Once everyone arrived, we needed to order more food, and no one came for 15 minutes. We waved, shouted and had a couple employees make eye contact but not one employee came by.
After all that, we hoped the food would be promising... NO. Garbage. The takeout Chinese I ordered from the slums of Baltimore city looked AND TASTED better than the trash they served onto our table.
There were sections in our fried rice that had chunks of salt and the next bite would be bland. The Spicy Chicken dish was pretty good. But one good dish wasn't enough to satisfy an entire evening of disappointments.
The cherry on top was when we left. I strolled my kid out of the restaurant, and 8ft. from the door, the manager (owner) is smoking. And after he sees us, he continues to smoke toward our direction. Doesn't turn the corner, didn't care about the child coughing, just continues to puff. There's a sign that says no smoking in front of the building.. and this idiot was smoking in front of it...
Several years ago, we loved this place. It was lively, very clean and the food was amazing. But that was a long time ago. Stick to Chopsticks...
