Man, Covid-19 and management have done a number on this place.
1st off, the food is still top notch and this is the reason I continue to order from here.
But...
My past 3 carryout orders have been screwed up.
One of the online orders was completely missed by the front of house passing it to the kitchen. This resulted in an hour delay of when we arrived to pick up our food. Then, they forgot an entire bag of food when they handed us all of the food.
They did have a delivery driver drop off the food to us, but when they came with that food, it was STILL missing food.
Like, come on man, when the first and second order are screwed up, you would think you would triple check the food before bringing it to us.
I asked that it just be partially refunded to us, but the manager said that was too complicated, so instead they just gave us some extra wings.
When they delivered the food they threw in a dozen wings for free (which we didn't really want at that time, bc of all of the other food we had ordered) and they told me that the next time I ordered they would give me some fries on the house (well, not actually, because I had already paid for them.)
That was a really terrible experience and if I hadn't been eating here for years, I wouldn't have gone back after that.
The last time I ordered food for curbside pickup they brought out 1 bag to me and completely missed the other TWO bags. Luckily, the mistake was so obvious to me that I ask them to go back in to get the other bags, which they did.
But...
After I sat in my car to check the order myself (I'll never not do this again) I realized that we were missing an order of fries...
Yup, those were the same fries that were given to us to make up for the last time they forgot our fries. Woof.
So, I had to go in and ask the server to get me the fries, which then took another 5 minutes and I had to go into the restaurant which I was trying to avoid in the first place.
And why was I tying to avoid it?
Well, let's just say that they have taken ZERO precautions for Covid-19.
The kitchen staff prepares all of the food without gloves and mask around their necks, if they have them at all, in a crowded kitchen.
The servers and bartenders wear their masks down around their necks inside and when they deliver the food to your car, there's a 50% chance they remember to pull it up over their nose.
The small restaurant is constantly packed with patrons who are elbow to elbow.
2 years ago I gave this place a 5-star rating and for a good reason.
But now, they get a 4-star rating for food and a 1-star rating for my experience.
I wish management would take this note seriously, but I believe this message will fall...
Read moreBeen a regular for a few months now. Service is always awful, kitchen moves at a snail's pace, and prices fluctuate constantly (including charging for water now). The food being great is the only redeeming quality of the restaurant and the only reason I come back. Of all the things that irk me the most about this place, however, the owner tops the list. Not only does he park his truck in a spot by the exit that is sure to leave someone paralyzed, but he let my group (as well as the entire staff) waiting in the parking lot for 30 minutes after they were supposed to open until he could come and unlock the door, only to tell us without remorse that they would not be opening for an hour. This is not the type of establishment that can turn away paying customers. Will I return to Peeble's? Yes, probably. Will I be happy about it? Absolutely not. They are on the thinnest of thin ice with me, though. One star.
UPDATE: After returning to Peeble’s a few times in weeks past, I have changed my outlook on the restaurant. Service was friendly and competent, water was free of charge, menu prices were consistent, and the owner has undoubtedly avoided a lawsuit by adjusting his parking spot. As a result, there have actually been other customers in the restaurant when I attend. Business has surely improved drastically - Peeble’s has done a complete 180 since my previous review. I am not asking for credit; nor will I reject credit when offered. I can only take solace in the fact that I have singlehandedly revamped Peeble’s in such a positive way that only Gordon Ramsey could match. I have adjusted my rating according, and will continue to do...
Read moreTook my son there for his birthday. Wife tagged along. Atmosphere is right on for what we like. Food was great and at a fair price. We had the fried mushrooms, some of the best I've had, fried green tomatoes were really good, most places serve them as slices, Peebles cuts the slices in quarters. I've never seen this but it is the best way to eat them. The wings were as good or better than anywhere. My son got the catfish Po-boy and he really enjoyed it. I also ordered a pound of spicy crawfish, hard to find crawfish in Columbia, they were also very good. Wish I had not worn a white shirt, maybe a plastic bib available would be a good extra. Nice selection of beers. We had a few IPA's that did not disappoint. Service was outstanding. Don't be fooled by the way the outside of the building looks, go inside and it is a very comfortable. Enough TVs to satisfy the sports minded, even though all TV's were on basketball and I don't watch basketball. Waitress very friendly and attentive. I wanted to compliment the chef and owner, when I did they were kind of.. blah, they appear to have much better cooking skills than people skills but that's not a problem. As long as the place is clean, has a good selection of food, beer and taste great, I don't care if the owner and chef are a little less than friendly, even though as a hint to them, it would go a long way to build relationships with their customers. Five stars. I'll go back. Didn't take any pictures but the food presentation...
