Publick House is a really cool restaurant, the ambiance is very old-school cool, and the service is usually pretty good as well. Although I don't personally eat wings, this is my friends' and family's go-to place for the best wings in Columbia. I mainly get the mozzarella sticks, chicken tenders, and fries, which are for the most part above average, although a little hit-or-miss. They have a great selection of beers, and their hand-made liquor drinks are always fresh and well-made. I have noticed however that their non-alcoholic beverages such as lemonade and soda are often watered down and not the greatest. All-in-all, Publick House is an above-average restaurant, and one that I would definitely recommend to others and will keep coming back to.

The customer service for this place is lacking, in my opinion. We ordered chicken noodle soup, and it didn't have any chicken. It honestly appeared like vegetable soup. We asked the waiter, and he came back and said, "Well, we make our stock. It's not can like you are used to." Which to myself is very rude because the extra commentary wasn't needed. The food is subpar at best, there are so many better restaurants in my opinion. Also, we found a hair in the wings, which we do appreciate that they removed it off the tab.

The service was great, the food was pub fair with no flair. It looked tasty but only the chicken wings had something going for it. The Chicken Salad melt created chewy chicken pieces and what they call raw fries are potatoes chips but they were undercooked and not very crispy. The fish sandwich did not have the same beer batter as the fish and chips and that would have made all the difference. There are pools tables to enjoy and a nice bar for a drink. But I would not come just for the food.

My hot wings with extra sauce were dry and bland. I mentioned it to the waitstaff, all she could do was bring a cup of extra sauce. Why the extra sauce couldn't be tossed on the wings when they were finished cooking is apparently unheard of.They used to do great wings, but not anymore.

Okay, some explanation. I've been a patron of the PH for 25 years, it was always a place I enjoyed - good friends, good beer, great wings. But apparently over the last few years they've changed the way their wings are prepared. Instead of messy and wet with sauce, they're dry. They're not messy, in fact they aren't anything. I think if I had some of their hot wings and some plain wings in front of me, blindfolded I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I'm sad to say that I don't think I'll go back. Sorry Publick House, but there are other places in town that have equally good beer and atmosphere, but much...

As a long time patron ~20 years I am so disappointed with the new Publick House. I live in MT but grew up in Columbia. Publick House was ALWAYS my first stop for dinner and a drink when I was home for a visit. To be honest a bit of the charm was in the setting of the place. The new remodel feels unfinished, the energy felt different and it all just seems poorly thought out. Service was pretty abysmal as well. With one server trying to serve the whole place(which was only about 4 tables). We eventually had to just go to the bar to get our own drinks.

On to the menu, while I fully understand that the price of everything has gone up the fact that a wing and fry now cost $18 is absurd, especially considering the service that was being offered up.

While it was always nice to take a walk down memory lane while back in town this will be an end of an era for myself.

I hope Publick...

The bartender and waitress was very nice and friendly but the food was terrible. I ordered hot wings (medium flavor) with raw fries. Honestly less then 5 to 8 minutes later my food came out. Waaaaayy too quick! The wings tasted old like they were cooked a few days before. The raw fries were cool (temperature wise NOT cool like good). The ranch dip tasted like it was a slight mixture of blue cheese (which I hate) and ranch. I ate like 4 of them cause I don't like sending food back for them to redo my order (I'm sure many of you know why). I paid my bill and left the waitress a tip. I'm not sure if I will return. The place only had like 8 or 10 people in it at around 6 pm at the beginning of the week! Food should have been hot and outstanding!! Well if (a big IF) I try them again I hope it will be better. Hey the beer was good...
