Okay…I really REALLY wanted this place to be incredible; in short, the food is strictly okay overall. The owners were so lovely and I genuinely do hope they take this critique in stride.
We ordered the pork ribs, brisket dinners with mac and cheese, collard greens, baked beans and cornbread. The pork ribs were delicious - excellent smoke, tender, juicy, nice meaty bite. Tasting the ribs first, I thought this was the perfect set up for an even more flavorful meal, but I was wrong. The collard greens were alright, they definitely were not made with smoked meat which isn’t an entire deal breaker, but they only tasted of vegetable stock and vinegar - not overly salty but just not the best tasting.
Unfortunately the mac and cheese was just not good, at all. The noodles were well cooked and held their structure, but that was probably the best thing about it - lacked flavor entirely, just noodles and cheese. No salt, no pepper, NOTHING. Thrown away, just not good, I couldn’t eat it.
The baked beans were interesting, might’ve been the best thing under the pork ribs honestly. The flavor was different from any baked beans I’ve had, tasted like they may have used cinnamon and slightly too much nutmeg in the beans, overall they were fine. The cornbread was sad, dense, lacking flavor almost like it was an afterthought. Not baked well.
Now…how utterly disappointing was this brisket!!! (Sad face) The seasoning did not come through on this cook, you couldn’t really taste the smoke on this; in order to eat the food I had to douse the brisket in their house BBQ sauce. While the sauce brought the food alive - I wish the smoke on the brisket could’ve done all the work!! The sauce is required in order to taste a modicum of flavor, and in BBQ the sauce should be optional. While yummy the sauce was definitely oil based, it just kind of slipped through the brisket and pooled at the bottom of the container.
Overall, I’m not sure if this was just an off day, or if this is how the food really is. I’m truly saddened by this experience, I really wanted...
Read moreI found this place on a whim. Sometimes, life grants those who take a chance a great reward. While looking for a jamaican joint that no longer exists i passed this place. Upon finding the Jamaican place was closed up i turned around and stopped in for lunch.
At first i was unsure of where to park. Being from the dayton area, i was unfamiliar with the Area and didn't want the cops grabbing me for stopping right out front on main. Ran inside asked if it was cool, James said it was fine. I was super happy, because the smells coming from inside told me i wanted to be here.
Got the car parked, got my buddy inside, ordered our food. I got the chicken wings, greens, Mac n chz and cornbread. My buddy got ribs, green beans, Mac n chz and corn bread.
I can say without a doubt, the guys running this place are proud of their food. With good reason. They are also really cool. My first visit was Thursday. Im writing this early Sunday morning, after my second visit late Sat night. Got to try the brisket, brought another friend on our way to a concert. He told me he doubted the show would suck, but if it did, the brisket made it worth it.
Anyways, I've spent over 15 yrs cooking professionally. All my friends know i am a food snob. My family knows that i can out cook both my mom's mom and my dad's mom. Eat here! Other reviews say it's in a bad part of town. I say who cares. These guys deserve your money. They care and do a Damn good job. I will be back as soon as i can. Hope to...
Read moreStopped by for lunch today and was thoroughly impressed. There was a few people waiting on food and everything came up so fast for them. Ordered the rib dinner and was told 5-10 minutes and it was done in just 2 minutes. They showed me the plate before bagging it up and put more sauce on the ribs for me. Super quick and easy process and the food! My god these are easily some of the best pork ribs I've had since Terry blacks in Austin. I personally think they beat those ribs, no question! The sauce is sweet, smoky with the perfect hint of spice that everyone will love. The collard greens are perfectly seasoned and fresh, the Mac & cheese was loaded with cheese and baked to perfection.
It might be out of the way but for the price, the quality, the taste and how quick they put this together, you absolutely can not beat this BBQ! This is a must stop for anyone and everyone looking for the best BBQ in columbus. So glad I...
