Some friends and I went for the Parable After Dark event, and I was really disappointed. This was my first time here, so maybe it is different on other nights. The decor and lighting of the bar itself was pretty well done. The back patio was very cute (and very busy). Speaking of busy - the bar setup is insanely convoluted and caused a huge line for basically most of the night, making it very difficult to get through to the dance room and the back patio. The bartenders were very rude; one was snippy about how they were refilling the water cooler, and another told my friend they "aren't a genie" when said friend misunderstood when a drink on the menu couldn't be served because of lack of ingredients (they misheard and thought it just wasn't being served despite being on the menu.) Given that the bar is immediately across from the open dance room, mishearings must happen often. Unfortunately, the worst offender of the night was the DJ. I don't know exactly who they were, but one half of the duo was some person in a captain's hat just absolutely massacreing songs by needlessly and endlessly hitting buttons on a soundboard and making Alex Jones soundbites play almost nonstop. Between that and the airhorn effects, my friends and I actively stopped dancing multiple times with displeased faces because it sounded more like a 7 year old with an iPad seated at the same table as someone with good music taste (since other than that, the music was good!) When the DJ stopped at 10pm despite the event ending at 11, and no one went on after them for a short period of time, we weren't sure if that just meant the music was done an hour early or what. We left at 10:30pm, and there was still no more music, so... I guess they just were doing silence for an hour. I would probably come back for a different type of event to feel out the place some more, but I would be very hesitant to come back for or recommend any DJ nights featuring the same names as were on the flier. I also hope the bartenders were having an off night; if not, I can easily think of other witchy/occultish and/or LGBTQ+ friendly alcoholic venues with much kinder staff that I would...
Read moreApproximately forty of us [including several groups of adults with children] gathered yesterday [5-4-2019] at The Oracle for the sixth annual "Day of Reason" event.
The annual "Day of Reason" event is a "secular" response, sponsored each year in central Ohio by the Columbus Coalition of Reason [CoR], to the far-better-known-and-publicized annual "National Day of Prayer" event.
The Oracle provided a friendly and welcoming location for our alternative event that had focused a lot on science and therefore had not included any prayer.
We had been planning to use the patio [the fenced-in area in the back yard of The Oracle] for much of our event [and also for our brief program that had included a speaker] but it had been raining all day so we had had to stay inside the...
Read moreWhile the aesthetic of this bar and the patio is great, do NOT expect to get a mixed drink quickly at this bar. Their set up is inefficient, calling drinks out like a Starbucks with no names associated with the drinks. Someone else took my friend’s order, and mine was never made. When asked what I had ordered I was given attitude. It was extremely uncomfortable that drinks made were left unattended instead of being handed directly to the person who ordered, this truly is a...
