When we got there we were not greeted nicely and sat down at a table. The manager who apparently was our waitress did not greet us or acknowledge our presence. We had to ask her directly if she could help us but just stood there without saying a word. Once I figured out that she was our waitress we ordered our drinks and food but she treated us poorly throughout the process because of a few questions we had. Her usual reply was to stare at me blankly or grumble a short yes or no. We didn't stay long because she asked us to leave after we expressed concern about the poor service and how she ignored our questions and walked away from us very rudely. Apparently All because we can speak Chinese but we preferred English and when our questions weren't clear enough we reverted to Chinese which the manager took offense to but but she was fluent in both Chinese and english. She decided to blame my wife for not starting in Chinese when we got there. Arguments between us and the manager continued and nothing was rectified and she asked as to leave so we did. Her display of excellent service was in front of myself my wife and my 9 year old son which she had no care about what she said around him.
I do not recommend this place because the atmosphere was dark all the lights were off the TV's were off there was 2 tables of people and there was a mess of food (not on the menus, but in dishes and pots) at the back right table that was stagnant and sitting around a gathering flies which was not a nice sight to look at.
When I asked about the drinks if certain ones had refills or not I was Shown rudeness towards my questions especially when I asked if there was free refills for Soda again met with blank stare.
Our meal would cost us well over a $180 Plus a tip but she told us to leave and yelled at my wife from across the restaurant accusing her of rudeness before we opened the door on the way out. Shows how professional and service oriented they are.
I offered to pay what we touched for example drinks, you told me directly "No! Just get out"
Wen we arrived only 1 table was being served, left shortly after we sat down. We were the only active table 3 minutes prior to out leave.
Your appearance and service was dark and moody which created the atmosphere you provided.
When we decided to talk to a manager we haven't asked yet. You abruptly shouted from the cashier station "I am the manager" and came to our table with aggressive stance and posture.
When we calmly expressed our concerns you told my wife to "calm down" while she was talking in a medium tone while reverting to Chinese since you expressed such anger us not "starting" our dining experience in Chinese but English. You repeatedly told my us we were not correct about the service issues and saying it's our fault.
6 When we ordered yes you brought our food but not all. We understood it would be a few trips but you overheard my wife asking me where is the rest. I told her more will come. You took offense to this for some reason I dont know why. We were making sure our order was intact.
When we were leaving you had 1 table that sat down of 2 and 1 person waiting by the door. Your shouts of anger or disgust from one side of the room to the other could be heard. Unfortunately the people you had could not understand the disrespectful things you said as we left.
I'm glad I had a Groupon but I did not tell you because it may of affect your service greater knowing so. I got a refund from the site and reported the incident. In closing we ate at your restaurant before, we had a great experience and was willing to return but all that has changed. We definitely had a different server and or manager who...
Read moreCoco Hot Pot was a pleasant surprise! We had planned a visit to Micro Center but waited until we got to the area to decide what we wanted for lunch. When we arrived we conisdered all the options. My daughter didn't want Hoggy's BBQ Aacross the street, much to my chargrine, and no one wanted anything familiar like a Chipotle or McDonald's. We saw Coco Hot Pots, and everybody was at least open to Asian, so I stepped in to see a menu.
There were several customers eating when I walked in. I particularly noticed two women had a load of rolled raw beef and lamb with veggies and looked like they were enjoying themselves. I got a menu from a waiter and checked it out. The prices were reasonable, and the menu, while eclectic to me, had enough familiar dishes like Tso's to keep me comfortable. I shut the menu, walked back out to my van and invited the family in.
We were seated at a large booth, which fit our five just fine. The booth we were in only had one heating plate as opposed to the others that had plates at each seat. We all opened menus and started perusing. Excitement was building, but we really had no idea how or what to order. Thankfully, our young waiter, Eric was there to expertly guide us. We ended up ordering a combo with (raw) beef, lamb, squid, clams, and shrimp. It had veggies and we ordered some ramen and udon noodles on the side. Just in case, I ordered some trustee General Tso's.
The hot pot with three broths (you can customize the broths: flavor and number) arrived along with the general Tso's. We all dug in. I started with the Tso's, AND MAN O MAN, was it the absolute best I had ever had. Sure, it's Chinese-American, but it was top shelf! In our hot pots of broth we had beef and mushroom, spicy and medium spicy (I'm not sure the exact names, we just ordered the most popular).
Even though we looked like the novices we were, we all started dipping different things to boil. O, one thing I forgot to mention, is that our waiter directed us to make our own customizable sauces from the sauce bar. Most everything you boil in the pot is dipped in some sauce as the boiled item is merely perfumed with the broth, be it mushroom or pepper 🌶️. The mixing cards at the sauce bar help you concoct your own creation. My sauce had so much promise, but I sabotaged it. My sauce called for fish sauce and I added way too much and ruined it, but get this, I was so enamored with the Tso's and hot pot I didn't need to go back for a sauce.
To shorten an already long review, we absolutely fell in love with Coco Hot pot and will be back. We know you will enjoy it too....
Read moreWent here with a party of 4 on 9/6/24. The food was okay at best, nothing that you would crave in the future certainly. My biggest concern with the food on top of being overall non-impressive, was the cleanliness. My table of 4 ordered a vegetable platter to share and no one grabbed anything from it because of the appearance….especially the mushrooms. I know they come from the ground but I expect the restaurant to at least try and clean the dirt off (see attached picture). My true issue with this experience was with the management team. We ordered a single soup base to share from, which arrived promptly and with seemingly no issues. However, not a single member of our party of 4 thought the taste was satisfactory, actually it was pretty gross to be honest. Salty and otherwise bland with a slight unknown aftertaste that resembled soap water (at least that means it was probably cleaned). The waitress was amazingly nice, I have zero complaints with her. But when the manager was brought over after we asked to swap out the soup base, he was extremely rude and abrasive. Then another manager who may have been the owner or at least upper management was brought over, and an argument began between my table and this upper management person as he claimed “this is how they always make it” and “no one has ever complained about the taste before”. It was a lot of unnecessary commotion created when the solution was just to simply let us order a different soup base. It’s hot pot. So it’s kind of ridiculous if we order $150 in meats but then can’t eat it because the soup is bad. After saying we had bad taste, they ultimately swapped the soup base for us and the rest of the evening was…fine. In full disclosure, they did NOT charge us extra for the “new soup” base, but they did add a 18% gratuity on our party of 4, which heavily implied they assumed we wouldn’t tip. (I’ve never seen an automatic gratuity on a party less than 6 before, and there was no language on the receipt, or otherwise posted that we saw indicating a gratuity would be automatically inserted). After confirming with the nice waitress that management doesn’t skim their tips, we tipped an additional $20 cash on top of the auto gratuity, because we felt bad that she was stuck in the middle.
So if you want very okay food, with unwashed vegetables, and the chance to be yelled at if you don’t like the food, then I would recommend this...
