Great dive full of people speaking in languages I couldn't understand. That's where you're going to get the best authentic foreign food of any kind!
Pro: The food was amazing! Maybe best Ethiopian/Somali food I've ever had & definitely top 3. Very HOT spicy curry 🔥🚒😋
They brought me a banana when they set the table, and I ate it. I should have waited. I've since leaned that it tastes way better if you eat a bit of the banana with every bite of the food. A little injeera bread, a little salad, a little meat, & a little banana together, now you're eating like a Somalian!
After the meal I was offered hot tea with milk, which I took to go. The tea is amazing. It has a lot of cardamom in it which is exactly how I like it.
Con: This is one of the two African restaurants I've been to where there's no toilet paper, and a water pitcher to clean yourself in the restroom. So expect that if you're a suburban girl--wear shoes, take TP & paper towels in your purse. I think there was soap but I'm updating this 3 weeks after the fact (now that I've figured out why the bathrooms seemed strange after encountering the situation again elsewhere).
If you want to be as culturally suave as possible, eat with your right hand, not your left. Right hand for eating, & left hand for toilet use in traditional African / Middle Eastern cultures; it's rude (filthy) to eat with your left hand. I'm suggesting this because of my observation about the bathroom use.
Be aware they do observe Muslim holidays like Ramadan, when they fast, and no food is served during those days. I showed up during Ramadan in mid June accidentally but one lady gave me some samosas to go.
I highly recommend Ethiopia & Somalia Restaurant. Get out of your neighborhood & learn something about the rest of the world! Your stomach...
Read moreFirst time visiting this very humble restaurant. Excellent food! Do not judge this place by its exterior appearance.
The lady in the kitchen was friendly and helpful in recomending something to try for a first time visitor. I ordered goat meat with rice though i think i may have ended up with chicken? it was still good! no complaints.
The food was spicy but spicy with good flavor. Not just spicy for the hell of it. The rice is among the very best rice I have had rivaling asian and latin american dishes I was raised on. And what a clever way to make sweet potatoes. The salad was fresh and crisp. It was delicious. Thank you!
yes... I will...
Read moreI hate to say it, but it must be said. The great Fujiyama of years ago has long disappeared. It's sad too. The restaurant is not properly upkept. The carpet is as old as the restaurant itself, and please don't rain. The roof leaks, and they use buckets to catch the water. And the food is hit or miss. The restaurant no longer has the traditional Japanese vibes anymore. I wish the owner reads this, and make changes according. This used to be a really...
