George's Beechwold Diner — Restaurant in Columbus

I've visited this restaurant for years and always loved it until this past Sunday. While eating with a friend, a Latina employee of the restaurant started talking to my Latino friend and I in Spanish. Mindy, a server, overheard us and yells very loudly, "your in America, speak English". I asked to speak to a manager and the owner of the restaurant came to discuss the situation. The first thing out of his mouth was that this was a joke. At no point did anyone involved in this conversation laugh, find it funny or even remotely appropriate especially considering less than 24 hours prior there was a mass murder of Mexicans at an El Paso WalMart. I expressed to the owner how uncomfortable these comments made not only us feel but everyone around us. Who speaks to someone so disrespectfully, let alone someone who's a patron of your establishment and another young lady who's also your co-worker. There's never a time or place that's appropriate for such racist remarks and to brush it off as a 'joke' is utterly disgusting. The owner then went on to say that he can't control the comments of all 9 of his employees. I'll give him that. However, what he can control is the environment and culture that he's created that made Mindy feel safe spewing such hate to a customer and co-worker. This was not a joke. Your co-worker was not laughing, and at no point did Mindy apologize to us for being offended at her 'joke'. I'm appalled and disgusted that this type of behavior is tolerated and accepted by the owner of this establishment. I'm regretting even paying my bill before leaving and fattening the pockets of a racist...

Food was really good but I was diappointed in service. I took a friend there for breakfast. One service mishap after another. First of all, when we got there took some time to be acknowledged. After that the lady with me had hot chocolate and I had coffee. Server put coffee in her hot chocolate. I asked for water for her and server just went about doing anything but. When we got our food, my pancake was never brought with order and server brought wrong toastso we asked for correct order and server left rye toast on toaster bin. After 10 minutes of it sitting there I walked over and asked her for it, by time we got it my friend had already eaten over half her food. Since I never received my full order I just asked her to take pancake off order. Other server gave us a discount but I will never go back. Sad to say, I was embarrassed I took my friend there. This used to be a favorite place to go. When we arrived, there were only two other tables with people seated so it was not busy. I do not have over the top expectations, but when orders are missing food items, wrong food items are delivered, a hot chocolate is filled with coffee and request is ignored to bring water so friend could have something to drink with food and replacement toast is left sitting until cold and I leave frustrated? My next choice will be Tommy's diner and...

Here for Gesh I don't know what's taking me so long to come back to this gem of a diner in our neighborhood! It's always busy prepare to possibly have to wait. However it's well worth the wait!! Mandy and Kate do a great job they work well, very polite, friendly and fun 😄 You can also see your food being prepared if you're seated at the counter area. I've never had a bad experience or bad meal here. Prices are reasonable and you get huge portions. It's clean and well kept the atmosphere is very nostalgic!
