Beyond Terrible, on behalf of all Celiac's please don't promote a Gluten Free menu if your staff are not trained. I was recommended this restaurant on a recent business trip. As a Chef and Celiac I was excited to experience this Gluten Friendly / Free Farm to Table Mexican Restaurant. Myself and a Colleague dined at your restaurant upon seating we had a discussion with a very pleasant waitress on the items that were Gluten Free on the menu, the waitress pointed out the symbols and even clarified on beverages when asked. We ordered a number of small plates the first of which as stated on the menu was Ensalada Picada |gluten free, lactose-free | chopped organic romaine lettuce, organic avocado, organic red onion, crispy tortillas, grilled nopales (cactus), chipotle dressing.
A number of dishes followed however this is where my meal began and ended. I took a bite of the salad and noticed a familiar crunch and flavor. Knowing my reaction to Gluten I spoke to my colleague about it. We both looked at the tortilla strips in the salad and determined that they were flour. A Young lady with green hair was bussing the table next to ours, she overheard our conversation and asked if there was a problem. Explaining yes and why she continued to dispute that the tortilla strips couldn’t be flour as there was no such thing as flour tortillas. I am a professional Chef as is the colleague who dined with me that evening, In my career I have only ever stated my profession when talking about dining and standards a handful of times. However after the explanation given above I explained that both people at the table are chefs, her response was ‘yes I am too as is the person in the kitchen” at this point I asked if we could see the packaging, her manager came out and explained that the corn tortillas are 2 different thickness, again I asked to see the packaging. Around 5 minutes later a Manager respectfully removed the dish and apologized. For the contamination and comped the meal. We left Hungry and unwell, throwing up on...
Read moreIf you're ordering takeout, don't bother arriving on time. New record tonight – 25 minutes late (after mostly 15-20 minutes over the past year). The sting was compounded by getting hung up on when I called after 20 minutes. I had to walk in to get their attention.
Judging by all the people lurking in the parking lot waiting on their food, it is a consistent problem. It's happened to me on weekends and during the week. The excuse is "we're busy" every time. Right, so am I. Easy solution: just pad your pickup time if you keep on missing. Definitely wouldn't be able to get away with this if it wasn't such a good food desert in Concord. I guess that's why there's a sort of defensive entitlement when you complain. No offers to fix anything. No phone call to let you know you can wait at home. No estimate of how much time you're going to wait when you call after arriving. FWIW, today was the first time I've been hung up on. Just not great customer service for their to-go crowd.
Beware that they are skimpy with the chips with takeout, even when you specifically ask for some, even when you're ordering their expensive guacamole. They have forgotten chips on a number of occasions, so don't leave the lot without checking your bag.
Usually, the food is quite strong, but tonight was a partial miss. The side order of salsa tasted off, like it was missing an important ingredient (salt?), so we threw it out. Cochinita tacos were drier than I've had there before.
Maybe I'll reconsider once I feel comfortable eating there in person, but I'm break for now. It's too bad. Every plate is tasty and authentic, the drinks are legit, and the service (in-person pre-pandemic) was...
Read moreIf you're in the Concord area and in the mood for some great Mexican food, I highly recommend checking out Adelita.
As is standard with any of my recent reviews, I have been including COVID safety just for awareness. I felt very safe at Adelita on on the patio area, as the tables were spaced pretty far apart and the staff was wearing adequate PPE.
We tried a number of different things at Adelita, including the carne asada and al pastor tacos, their special summer watermelon margarita, grilled street corn, guac an chips, and the churros for desert. The tacos were by far the best of the bunch. If you're looking for a great taco, Adelita is a very strong option. The carne asada taco had melt in your mouth steak packed with flavor, and the al pastor had the perfect amount of pineapple. The tortillas seem like they were made in house, as they were also delicious.
The margaritas, churros, and street corn were also good. The churros aren't as good as some of the ones we had in Spain and Toro in Boston has set the bar extremely high for street corn, but they were a nice little compliment to our meal. The margaritas were delicious. The guac was also extremely fresh and the chips weren't oversalted, so they were a great way to start off the meal while we were thinking about what else to order.
If you're looking for good margs and great tacos, definitely stop at Adelita. We will...
