We visited this business on 6-4-25, My wife and her 90 year old mother are Jewish. We are constantly on the lookout for any businesses that provide authentic Jewish favorites such as Bagels, Bialy's Gefilte fish, chopped livers, Knishes, Potato latkes, whitefish, Rye Bread, Matzo Ball soup and many more. We heard about Boychiks from a friend and did an excited search on their web site and it looked like they shared our passion for the Jewish favorites. It was started by a Jewish woman with her own lament about the difficulty of finding these foods done well in the Jewish tradition so much so that she took it upon herself to start a business providing these sought after treats. From perusing the web site, we got the impression that a good many of these items would be available so we went to this location closest to us to check it it out. We arrived with much anticipation to this location only to find a work in progress. There was a big sign in the window stating that new locations were opening soon which I found odd because this was a new location, or at least it looked that way. We entered what appeared to be a small warehouse much larger than it need to be to hold the food production, supplies area and small food case and cashier area. Many items of the nature of working warehouse were exposed to view making it feel less like a restaurant and more like a factory kitchen. The floor was a smooth concrete. There was an L shaped counter mounted to two walls and corner and no tables, only cheap chairs for sitting at the small counter. It was obviously a take out place only. We stood around bewildered, not sure what to make of it. The glass walled food cases only displayed a variety of bagels and Bialys an no other foods; none of the other delicacies we were hoping to find. I small menu of sandwiches presumably made with bagels was available. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. In our confused disappointment we bought six bialys and almost lit the floor on fire as we high tailed it out of there.
The warehouse aesthetic can really work sometimes but not here. This just look jumbled and unfinished and far too large of space for what they had in it.
If you are going to have a nice glass showcase, stuff it with all you've got. Label them and include prices. It should be bursting to the brim and irresistible. This is how to show off what you have. Walk into any Kinders to see how it's done
If your looking for traditional jewish favorites you can skip this place. You'll have to go to Saul's in Berkley. This was nothing more than a spare looking bagel shop and you can get that anywhere. The bialys were tough and a dental hazard,...
Read moreSo glad Boichik bagels made it to Concord!!! We were skeptical of visiting due to some not so great reviews like lack of cream cheese on bagels and chewy texture, but what we experienced was quite the opposite; delicious bagels stacked high with cream cheese in a really cool atmosphere.
I got the salt and pepper bagel toasted with the horseradish cheddar scallion cream cheese. It was toasted perfectly and the tastes were incredible. Just the right amount of horseradish and salt, and the bagel felt very dense while still being light and chewy. My wife got the everything bagel with plain cream cheese and it was just as good. Her bagel was a bit more "chewy" though. Maybe they're just dialing in the baking process still. All in all, we'll be back!
The only downside was that the cashier seemed to not understand that I simply wanted a bagel with cream cheese... First she tried to tell me about the sandwich options, then tried to sell me on a dozen bagels, then finally understood I just wanted a toasted bagel with cream cheese on the 3rd time around.
People also need to STOP THINKING THIS IS LIKE A NOAH'S BAGELS!!! If you want sweet options like French toast bagels with blueberry cream cheese or an egg sandwich, then go to Noah's. Only come to Boichik if you want a savory bagel, cream cheese, or a...
Read moreI've been wanting to try Boichik Bagels after hearing a few people recommend it, and reading reviews that claimed these bagels were on par with east coast bagels. As a NY native, I grew up with amazing bagels. I'm happy to discover that while the bagels at this Boichik location aren't exactly the same as a great east coast bagel, they are the closest to it in quality that I've tried in the bay area.
I brought home a few bagels to try: plain (4/5), egg (4.5/5), and eggything (4/5, just slightly too salty when paired with lox). I also bought 8oz of Nova Lox (4/5, pretty good, but pricey!).
Service was fine and fast, but wasn't super friendly. There was no wait on a Wednesday around 11:45am. This is a convenient location steps away from Trader Joe's, usually with available parking. I'll be back and look forward to trying...
