I donât even know where to start. The amount of disrespect me and my friends got from the manager was on another level. He was so racist and ignorant! The moment we walked in he asked us for our IDs (mind you we been there before never been ask for an ID)I showed him mine and one of my friend did too and by chance my other friend forgot her ID and she asked him if she can show him a picture of it instead. And we explained that we were just there for the food and that we wonât even order alcohol. He said no and told us to leave the restaurant even if we were served there before without our IDs. We placed an order for 3 burgers and tatter totes to go and when to our car to wait for the food. When we got back to our car my friend found her ID so we went back to show him her ID and asked if we can dine there. He was rude but said we could stay. After 15-20 the guy who worked in the kitchen came and brought 1 burger and the tatter totes. We thought he would be back with the other 2 burgers we ordered 20 mins past and nothing. I went back to ask him if he only charged us for just a burger instead of three, he went back to the kitchen and said the guy forgot to make the other two burgers (of course he would blame the other guy) and told me to wait. I said okay and asked for a sauce to eat the tatter totes while I wait. He brought the mayo and acted like he forgot the ketchup I asked for too. So I had to ask again and he basically threw the ketchup instead of handing it to my friend. At this point we all lost it and had to asked if he is rude too everyone like this when we got the other two burgers we ordered. However, the guy that worked in the kitchen didnât want to say his input about his manager âJoeâ not sure if thatâs even his real name. He still wouldnât leave us alone and he came to our table as if his racist attitude towards us was not enough to make us feel unwelcome. So we just asked for a Togo box and left cause we couldnât handle any more disrespect that came out of his mouth. If you are black I advice...
Read moreI came here on a random weeknight looking for decent food at a reasonable price. I was wrong on one end. Galaxy Hut was delicious yet reasonably priced.
The atmosphere inside was dark yet intimately cozy. It felt a bit like your neighborhood bar/pub, as if you're suddenly transported to a small town in the Northeast. The staff were both friendly and informative on the selections. While they do take the 21+ restriction seriously, for those above that age, one can feel a bit like a kid again without the pressure of the outside world. After perusing the menu for a bit, I ended up with a Swedish Canadian sandwich and a side of Eggplant fries.
The Swedish Canadian was surprisingly filling, yet felt light. I appreciated the meat-like texture of the meatballs, and the flavor was not overpowering. The vegan cheese had a fullness to it that reminded me a lot of fondue cheeses, but without the heaviness. Top that with the gravy, and it was both filling and comforting.
As for the fries, they were delightfully soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. It was a surprising amount, given the price point. I actually expected a bit less. All in all, without drinks you can expect to pay around $20 per person for a solid meal. Although, their drink menu was quite extensive on both the alcoholic and non-alcoholic sections.
If you're in the area, or you can't stand the blandness of DC, or need a solid quick bite at a reasonable price, please come check Galaxy Hut out....
Read moreTo borrow from my review on Yelp, I should first start out by saying that I can't write an objective review of Galaxy Hut - it is my local bar (even though I live in Mount Pleasant), it is home-away-from-home, and it is basically family to me.
I know all the staff, and the owner...and the previous owner, and I call them all friends, so take this with a grain of salt:
I guess I've waited so long to write a Galaxy Hut review because I like to keep my hidden gems hidden...but sadly, I'm lying to myself if I say it is hidden anymore. So may as well help bring in the right crowd, and point the rest of the people down to Whitlows where they belong!
Galaxy Hut is a place you go to in order to see your good friends, to catch up and have a great pint of beer. No, they don't have hard liquor anymore....it's been years, and while I love my bourbon, I'm fine with this place just being decent bar food and beer....and good music.
The beer selection is great, the live music may be a bit on the decline, but it is great as well, and the regulars are awesome.
Is it a bit of a hipster crowd...these days, maybe. But since part of being a hipster is denying the culture we'll never really know.
Come here for good beer, good conversation, and friends that you will have for a lifetime.
Oh, and if you are part of the post-frat, post-sorority crowd, check out Whitlow's reviews on...
