Jin Jin King — Restaurant in Panama City Beach

First visit. Overall impression. Glad I went, but wouldn’t have to go back. Allow me to explain.

Dining room is nice. Interior is nicer than the exterior.

Customer service is lacking. In the past it was common for movies to depict an archetype of Asian restaurant staff as rude and inarticulate. Not to be insensitive but this was really my experience. The lady who first tried to take my order told me she didn’t speak that much English, which is fine, but she made it seem as though it was my fault. What was even more bizarre was the fact that she was the same person answering the phones. She called another employee over who understood what I was asking.

Moving on. Portion sizes are very generous. I ordered the Chicken Egg Foo Young (a Chinese style omelet) It came with three omelets on a bed of lettuce, and a side of white rice, and a side of gravy. I had half the rice and two omelets left over.

Prices are low. The Chicken Egg Foo Young was $7.50 (and $8.06 with tax). Since it’ll take me two nights to finish it, I calculated that I essentially paid $4.03 for dinner.

Menu is extensive. From my understanding this restaurant is Chinese and Japanese fusion. So you’ll have a variety of options from both regional cuisines.

Last note and probably most important was the taste. The food was okay. I like the idea of Chicken Egg Foo Young. A dish with meat, eggs, veggies, and rice. But it wasn’t executed to my liking. It simply lacked flavor.

On the 5 star scale I’ll score all the above as follows.

Pros Atmosphere = 4 stars Portions = 5 stars Price = 5 stars

Cons Customer service = 2 stars Taste = 3 stars

Service extremely poor. Quality=?

This taught me to never prepay, or tip for services in advance, without some sort of guarantee. Jin Jin King will be deleted from all accounts.

After a very long wait, a man knocked on my door. He said he lived about a mile down the road, and a girl had dropped off some bags by his door. When he went to see what they were, he realized she had delivered food to the wrong address. He told the girl that she had the wrong address, and she just shrugged it off. Insisting she had the wrong address, the man followed her to her vehicle, while she ignored him completely, and drove away. What does she care? She had her money. The food had been paid for, with an extremely generous tip given in advance. The man, whose own dinner had been interrupted by all of this, then decided to do a very kind thing. He put his own dinner with his family on hold, to deliver the food to the correct address personally.

The food, having arrived late, was of course past the point of fresh. There was one container spilled in a bag. Whether it was the fault of the delivery girl or my very kind new friend does not matter. This was service at its worst. How this would have worked out if not for my kind new friend is anyone's guess. Some other poor soul will undoubtedly find out if he does not heed reviews.

I am in the service industry. I believe in taking care of those that take care of you. Tipping, or even prepaid at all, is clearly not the way to go with Jin Jin King. With so many other options available, they are no longer an option.

Indeed you should read the reviews before just choosing a place to dine. But if you read the reviews on the local Asian dining options here on PCB, you'll find many lies. Jin Jin King IS the best Chinese on the beach. There is no buffet so if you're looking for all-you-can-eat, cheap Chinese food that is getting old & stale on a hot table in a loud & obnoxious dining setting; this place is not for you. But if you like & are looking for quality Asian cooking & sushi in a pleasant & relaxing atmosphere the only choice you should make is Jin Jin King. I'm not saying the other places are not good; they're fine. But Jin Jin King is the finest. They've been on the beach as long as I can remember & their quality has never changed; always unbeatable. They recently moved from their old location & my family is about to go check out the new digs. The old location was not bad; very pretty inside dining room; but a bit small. We expect that the new location will be just as charming & enjoyable even if it is not much bigger than their last location. Anyway, read the other reviews... Read 'em all. Just don't forget to bring the grain of salt you should be taking those reviews with if you decide to get your Asian fix somewhere other than Jin Jin King.
